Orioles (72-61) vs. Yankees (69-63)
Where: Camden Yards
First pitch: 7:05 p.m.
TV/Radio: MASN/105.7 The Fan
Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Dylan Bundy (7-5, 3.71 ERA) vs. Yankees RHP Chad Green (2-3, 4.09 ERA)
Orioles make first round of September additions
With rosters expanding to 40, the Orioles have called up left-hander Jayson Aquino, catcher Caleb Joseph and right-hander Tyler Wilson from Triple-A Norfolk. Newly acquired outfielders Michael Bourn and Drew Stubbs have also reported to the club.
Aquino, 23, had a 3.72 ERA with Double-A Bowie and Norfolk this season. He made his major league debut on July 4 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, with two-thirds of a scoreless inning.
Joseph, 30, has batted .193/.240/.211 with two doubles and six runs scored but no homers and no RBIs over 40 games with the Orioles this season. He hit .250/.286/.250 (10-for-40) with four RBIs in nine games with Norfolk.
Wilson, 26, has gone 4-6 with a 5.38 ERA and 52 strikeouts over 20 games (13 starts) with the Orioles in 2016. He went 2-0 with a 4.56 ERA in six starts with Norfolk.
The left-handed-hitting Bourn, 33, was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks for minor league outfielder Jason Heinrich on Aug. 31. Bourn has batted .261/.307/.362 with 12 doubles, six triples, three home runs, 43 runs scored, 30 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 89 games with Arizona this season.
Stubbs, 31, was claimed off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Aug. 31. He has batted .259/.343/.414 with three home runs, six RBIs and eight stolen bases over 39 games between the Rangers and Atlanta Braves this season.
What to watch
1. Another big series: The games continue to be meaningful for the Orioles, with the Yankees arriving in town on the heels of the Toronto Blue Jays taking two of three at Camden Yards. The Yankees have won six of eight to pull within 2 1/2 games of the Orioles and Detroit Tigers for the second American League wild card. The Orioles are one of the coldest playoff contenders at the moment, having lost five of their past seven games. They need wins starting now if they’re going to get back in the AL East race and hold off the horde of teams pushing for a wild card. Will they begin to trend upward tonight?
2. September baseball: When rosters expand on Sept. 1, the game changes to a degree. More pitching changes and substitutions, more tools in the managers’ tool boxes. Teams go for matchups more often, sometimes slowing games down. How will Buck Showalter utilize his two new veteran outfielders and three additions to the bullpen?
3. Bundy day: For the second time in three starts, Dylan Bundy will be looking to improve upon a poor outing. Bundy allowed five runs in four innings Saturday, also against the Yankees, two starts after surrendering five runs in 4 1/3 innings. Bundy has a 7.53 ERA over three starts since his season ERA was down to an impressive 2.93. Can he bounce back again?
