Well folks, since this is my last dance on the board, I just wanted to bring back my favorite thread ever.

Its been an interesting ride to say the least. Glad I'll be able to keep my association going with about 30 of the good ones from this board.

    Have a good one, all.

Hopefully bobby signs up. This board should be much more clean and easier to talk baseball now that alties and folks with anonymous agendas slither back into the shadows.

    Go O's!

the wonderful thing about this thread is that it conclusively proves that a salary cap isn't necessary. Tampa routinely makes it to the playoffs.

as for the folks who like to say, "maybe they made the playoffs, but they lose to the big spenders in the first round". Tampa went thru the big spenders to reach the WS.

and they have continued to get there after letting go of players who reached free agency. so that kills the popular retort, "sure they made the playoffs this year, but what about when their young stars can become FAs".

a salary cap is unnecessary. game, set, match.

only if you leave, otherwise the intellectual dishonesty will continue unabated....

anonymous agendas? how very paranoid of you.....

just think of all the game threads you can post to using pithy things like "K this bum"..."he was out, the umps are biased"..."it was tax day, a let down was assured"..."just missed hitting that one out by 300 ft"...and other bird droppings from you....without anyone paying attention...

Correct. A salary cap is not necessary for some team with a small payroll to make the playoffs.

A team can make the playoffs with a small payroll.

Of course, virtually everyone agrees that a huge payroll makes it a lot easier to make the playoffs.

everyone also agrees that drafting well and having a strong player development program makes it easier to make the playoffs.

there are several advantages that are just as beneficial as deep pockets. the problem is that bobby discounts those factors and has declared that payroll flexibility is an insurmountable advantage that has kept the O's and Tampa from making it to the WS.

time has proven him to be 100% wrong.
