Az, I hope you are right. But it makes me feel like a grade schooler who now has to deal with hall monitors. I don't think we need a fellow poster locking uncivil threads, or deleting or modifying personal attacks. It's different when TA does it because TA isn't and has never been a participant in any way.

We are supposed to be grown ups. We shouldn't need hall monitors to make us play nice. I feel like we're all being subjected to hall monitors because of the immaturity of a few who couldn't seem to control their own behavior.

Lorn, I agree. I was just about to post that I graduated from elementary school years ago and then saw your post. This is so silly and childish. But there will always be someone who will like to be in charge and feel important on a "talk forum."

Looks like some folks knew what was coming but played it coy.

I think we all know why they created monitors- remember that racist jerk who posted all over the forum on a Friday and his stuff stayed up all weekend? The Sunnis on Calvert Street probably had a coronary when they saw that. And lo, the mods sprouted forth like so much ear hair so they could watch over the forums whilst the Sunnis were at rest.

I thought then, and I think now, a poster cannot be a moderator. A man cannot serve two masters. Whose face is on this coin? Then render unto the Sun Forum what is the Sun's, and keep thine own views off the forum.

Posters should not be moderators. The pressure from their forum friends to identify other posters and confidential information must be phenomenal! It is too hard a task to expect of anyone. I am SURE our moderators have never violated the TOS

I was indifferent to them until this latest abuse.

Now I'd like to see them all go.

Indeed, it appears that they are under too much pressure from their friends or like-minded others to do an evenhanded job.

Maybe it happens over time.

I still don't think that active members should have been asked to moderate but probably different reasons than others.

Most forums that you join will have rules and "owner" of the site makes them and chooses who enforces them. A thread on the other forum has already been locked. That's the owner's right and I don't feel the need to gripe about it. But, that's also the reason that I will likely pay to play here. I think that if we have to pay for it many of us will be more careful. Or, it could be that some of think that because we pay for it we should be able to conduct ourselves as we wish. Eeesh. Who knows? The world is filled with rules that we can choose to obey or not, some that we think are good; others that we think are bad. I tend to break rules so I know that there are consequences for doing so.
