    Default Slingblade

Despite an unever performance by Dwight Yoakum, it was an eyeopener. Never saw a bittersweet suspense film before.

I'm fascinated by Billy Bob Thornton's performance every time I watch that movie.

Besides, any movie with JT Walsh in it has to be good, eh?

Almost everybody in it was playing against type: Thornton, Yoakum, Walsh (the perv in the robe), & John Ritter (unrecognizable as the shop mgr.). Robert Duvall on screen for a few seconds as Karl's hallucinating dad. It's been a few years since I've seen that: there's also a shorter version from a few years before, which I think is titled "Some Folks Call It a Slingblade."

I first saw Billy Bob in the maddening "One False Move" (1992), which back then was on Siskel & Ebert's Top 5. It was premium cable fodder for years thereafter.

If I had known that I would have done my Carl impression for you when I was living there. It's pretty spot on...creeps out my buddy Greg every time I do it. Sometimes I call him when I know he can't answer and leave him messages as Carl.

I can only do it in bursts though...hurts the throat. I would imagine BB had to take a lot of breaks and drink a lot of water.

Walsh was different in that one certainly. I can't recall him being so chatty.

Billy Bob was so sweet and lovable. I was thinking of Forest Gump and Robert Duval as Boo Radley but, I knew it was coming.

I think it's on "Monsters Ball" extra features DVD were Billy Bob does his slingblade character for a few seconds as an outtake. It's weird and funny to see him morph into the fried taters man.
