Default Question regarding good old classic films:

What will happen to good, old classic films after the first of the year 2009? Just curious, because this is supposed to be a new era, with a newly-elected president, and I'd hate to see these great, golden oldie-but-goody classics disappear, never to be shown in revival houses or on TV movie stations again. West Side Story is a good example of a film that I'd hate to see disappear into the dustbin of history, and would hate to be advised to "bite the bullet" and get a DVD player and older films to watch on TV, first, because I'm not much of a TV person, and, secondly, I prefer going out and seeing great old films like this on a big wide screen in a movie revival house, when they come around.

Recommend linking to "Health & Science" & sparring with "bootsy."

When someone asked the late & hypochrondraic Oscar Levant where he lived, he said, "On the periphery." Oscar's long dead, but it appears the periphery is now severely overpopulated.

What kind of hypocritical baloney is this that you're handing me, Hexesis? I wanted an opinion on a question, not stupid advice to go over on "Health & Science". Thanks, buster.

Default Well, I already see what's going to happen with cinema with the new POTUS in office,

and the new stuff coming in won't be good. More movies will be coming from third-world countries, at least, in part because of the decline of unions in this country, so Hollywood will use non-union actors/actresses from these countries so they can be paid peanuts to produce mediocre films.

    Cool Have to Buck Up!!!

You will be seeing less and less of the "Old Classics", it's just a matter of Demographics.

Movies from the 30's & 40's are now better than 2 generations old now, they no longer appeal to the current generation.

I've been Archiving stuff since VCR's came out and now have tons of movies on DVD and other Digital formats and run them on my 50" Plasma.

Haven't been to a Movie theater in a good 10 years now and wouldn't want to go anyway. Most newer movies no matter how popular will be out on DVD in 90-120 days after their run, the movie companies actually make more after the release for Home sales in the long run.

Get your Big Screen & DVD player and Relax at Home. Get Over It!

I love TCM. They have a great movie lineup. I do not see how they do not appeal to the new Generation. I will admit kids do not like films that are not in color.

My 13 year-old daughter watched Sabrina with me yesterday and loved it. She told me she had seen an Audrey Hepburn poster at Blockbuster recently and wanted to get one for her bedroom wall.

    Atta girl!

Most youth will automatically bypass older, classic B&W films as a matter of course. But when they actually watch them, they usually like them Sure, they will make comments such as the acting is a little corny and teh special effects look cheesy, but they are still captivated by a great story that's well-acted and well-directed.

I used to have the whole movie package on Direct TV. I dropped it a few months ago because I found myself only watching the Fox movie channel, and TCM. I really enjoy the old movies and not for the nostalgia as much as the acting.
I also like the fact these stations show the movies in letterbox format if the movie was filmed in that format.

Oh I also watched Sabrina yesterday.

Last Saturday TCM showed a couple of the old Errol Flynn movies. Tuesday night they are going to show a couple of old Sci-Fi from the 50’s.fficeffice" />>>

Introducing the younger generation to old movies is kind of like introducing them to the artists that the rap artists are sampling. They learn an appreciation for what came before them. I introduced my kids to James Brown and some other artists from my generation. Now my grands quote lines from James Brown songs. If we don't introduce them they will never learn it.

It's a great film. I know people younger than me may disagree (not that I'm that old!), but they don't make real movie stars like Holden, Bogart and Hepburn anymore.

Kids could disagree. I think Sabrina of that time was better then the Harrison Ford remake.

On a lighter note they said when Bogart was asked if he liked Hepburn’s acting style. His reply was” She’s not bad if you like to make 7 takes on each scene”fficeffice" />>>

If that were me, anything that would have increased my time next to Audrey would have been appreciated!

That woman was absolutely beautiful, charming, gracious and definitely a fashion trendsetter.

Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly are two of the most gorgeous women I've ever laid eyes on. There isn't a female in Hollywood today that could a candle to them.

She was a class act. I am sorry she had such a short life. I know she married into royalty but I wonder why she gave up acting when she was so good at it.
