Why is it that most police agencies in this state don't really do traffic enforcement?

I travel 95 and 695 on weekdays and my observation is that there is no real traffic law enforcement on these roads. I frequently observe aggressive drivers; drivers weaving in and out of lanes; tailgating; or changing lanes inside of the Fort McHenry tunnel.

Oh, but I do frequently see several State Troopers at Pulaski Highway near Golden Ring doing their seat belt check point.

It certainly seems that way, doesn't it?

No, I believe that it's because people today are becoming more and more "two faced" to themselves and to anybody who'll listen. The good christians who want people to adapt their point of view are the same people who actively turn a blind eye to their government murdering, pilfering and supporting suppression around the world. the "patriots are the same ones who cheer on the movement of jobs overseas so a soulless, entity called a corporation can make hugely big bucks. and the "so called good decent people" of this country are the same ones who "over their dead bodies" would deny a universal health care system but will endorse keeping over 7,000 nuclear missiles "ready to rock" and spend hundreds of billions to do so. that's why another Conn incident is guaranteed to happen. we pretend too much.

So now the city is going to replace the speed camera system.

How much more is the taxpayer going to pay for this cluster****?

Default Now Baltimore City has a chance to do it right

    .

Now Baltimore City has a chance to locate the speed cameras where they will actually be "for the children".

Almost all, if not all, of the current school zone speed cameras are simply upgraded red light cameras that, in many cases, are not effective for protecting school children.

The state guidelines for Automated Speed Enforcement says that the camera be located within 500 feet before or beyond the school (there's one on Orleans @ Linwood that is approx. 800 feet beyond the elementary school). Also, if the school zone speed camera's purpose is to protect school children, then the traffic should be monitored in both directions.

The speed limit was reduced from 30mph to 25mph on that section of Orleans Street and unless otherwise posted the school zone speed cameras will enforce that speed limit from 6AM to 8PM.

The only logical conclusion for the current set up is it was the most cost effective means (upgrading existing red light cameras) to generate $40 citations and not really for the school childrens' safety.

Baltimore City, do the right thing and stop lying. Put the speed cameras where they will actually be "for the children".

That SHA guideline of "500 feet approaching or beyond the school" is for schools abutting a state road. On maps, Orleans Street is labeled U.S. Route 40.

However, the half mile radius as per the law is, in my opinion, a loop hole that allows for placement of the school zone speed cameras practically anywhere in the city without regard to whether it will actually protect school children.

I strongly suspect that the speed camera companies and their lobbyists drafted the curent law and promoted it to the legislators over free dinners and drinks; campaign contributions; and the BS line "it's for the children". Not to mention selling them on all the added revenue it would generate.

    Business as usual.

The taxpayers have already paid to replace this cluster and then some with the over 40 million they have handed out in fines.
I know someone that the camera recorded him going 56 when he said he wasn't going a MPH over 30 but he couldn't take off work to fight it, thats what these predatory cameras were feeding on out there.
the city would like to replace what they have and probably triple the number out there if they could.
But it's all about the children
