    Default Credit Score

Does anyone know of a reputable, legitimate company/agency to obtain your credit score?

Stay away from “freecreditreport”, they want you to sign up for a credit monitoring service before getting your report.

Now, “annualcreditreport” is free, but keep in mind that you are also entitled to one free copy of your credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus once a year. You can also get your credit score from them.

Just log onto their sites and follow the directions. You will all be able to print out a copy for you to keep.

I thought I read somewhere not too long ago that one of them went out of business?

I recommend myFICO, the consumer arm of Fair Isaac, which is the company whose algorithms (tuned by each provider) actually generate the numbers. The link is to their home page. There, you can find the various options. You will have to pay a fee.

Your credit reports are free, but I do believe that no matter where you go, there is a fee associated with your actual credit score.

jwf21403, I think you are correct. I believe I paid 7.95 last year for my score.

Brohan asked about scores, not reports. Hence my directing him to a site that offers scores... for a fee.

    Default Credit Reports

I would go directly to the bureaus: Transunion, Equifax, and Experion.
I hope you're not looking to borrow money for real estate investing, because it's a brutal time to try and get a mortgage, even with a decent credit score.
    Good luck,

    TrueCredit (might be TruCredit)

I have monitoring on all three reports (Equifax TransUnion and Experian) -- yes there are 3.

I also have current available score for all 3 -- accessible online.

Any change to my report such as -- requests other than from credit agancy partners or current creditors, requests for new credit, derogitory entries -- and I get an immediate alert -- has saved me a few times when a gutter rat collection agency tried to hang a debt on me that was not mine. if you don't know, and don't dispute -- incorrect derogitory information will remain on your report and adversely affect your score

Trust me, its worth it, I get premium interest rates (5% fixed mortgage, 8% unsecured credit line etc.)

It costs me 14.95 a month.

Watch doing this.....it will show as an inquiry on your credit report which has the ability to lower your score. I have used MyFico, TransUnion, and Equifax in the past to run my scores...that way it will not show up on your credit report as an inquiry.....

I have always heard that there are " soft pulls" and " hard pulls" of your credit history. Is this true?

I have a friend who wanted to look over his credit scores before some job interviews. He signed up at freecreditreport.com (as he says, 'the annoying commercials did their job'). He said he signed up, got his scores, and called back 2 days later to cancel his 'subscription'. He wasn't charged anything.

The woman he talked to to cancel told him that most people forget they can call back and cancel, so as a result, they get charged and just assume they were duped.

And from what I've been reading, the pulling of your credit report/score is really only damaging if it's very frequent. A couple times a year, should have minimal to no affect. According to the articles, it shows that you might be looking to expand credit to debt ratio which puts you at a higher risk over someone with a better credit to debt ratio. Again, just from my readings, I'm no expert.

    Yes,

    Soft pulls inlude things like:
Credit Agency Marketing partners (how do you think you get all those credit card offers??)

Current creditors -- not associated with a request for new/increased credit

    Self Inquiries
they do not show as an inquiry

    Hard pulls:
Requests for new credit -- even if from a current creditor

An example of a soft pull would be a credit card company checking your credit score before sending you a CC offer in the mail.

A hard pull would be when you try to accept that offer they will then go back and check it again for the purpose of issuing the credit.

If your credit score is top-notch there are some very attractive mortgage loans out there. I sold a home to a first-time home buyer the other week (settled Friday) that was a 30 year fixed rate at 3.25%. She was a single girl with a safe steady job and a credit rating of 830!! She got in for no money down a !00%+ mortgage and owed nothing for closing with a credit from the seller and the rest built into her mortgage, so all she actually paid for was the lunch and drinks she bought me after settlement!
