I have heard that Gilman is the best football school in the Baltimore area, if so why are kids leaving going to schools like McDon.

Countess is the only kid that people are saying that is leaving Gilman. I don't know the deal with that, if he is going to Mcd he will have to sit out a year and that just would make no sense. Maybe he's going somewhere else but McD makes no sense at all. Countess has a lot of potential but he plays a position that we have a lot of talent at. If he leaves we still have Cyrus Jones that was a Freshmen on Varsity last year who is oozing talent. He is a great basketball player but think he has more potential in football.

    Default Breaking News!!

Breaking News!! I just read that another player is leaving Gilman. His name is Kendall Patterson and I think he is a lineman on the def. side of the ball. The article said he is going to either Dem. or GC (http://hsmaryland.scout.com/) WOW another player leaving and again the question is this.
With Gilman at the top of the football chart why are players leaving to attend other schools???

If I am not mistaken this kid didn't start at Gilman. there are plenty of kids who leave and have left Gilman over the years for whatever the reason might be. Athletes as well as non athletes. But this isn't a player that I would call BREAKING NEWS! Countess would be a much bigger loss than this kid.

<Countess is the only kid that people are saying that is leaving Gilman>

I thought you spoke to a Coach about this issue.

Mark Twain said "it is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt". Please keep your mouth closed when it comes to gilman football. You are losing respect on this board.

I never said I talked to a Gilman coach about Countess. Show me where I said anything about Countess and a Gilman coach, I am waiting! I already schooled you about Spring Football, now make a *** out of yourself by putting words in my mouth! So if you don't come back with a quote that I made were I said a Gilman coach told me that Countess was staying then you should probably take a hiatus from the board! I don't know if he is or isn't. I have repeatedly said that I haven't heard anything about this issue. I have only spoke upon the ri=umor of him going to McD and how that makes no sense. Outside of that, you have not seen me write on this issue!

So now I am putting you on timeout, I will let you know when you can come out of your corner!

STEALING? Does Ohio State take players from Miami of Ohio or does USC take players from Cal-Poly? Stealing, you will have to rethink you accusations.

Haven't you read Rich Dad, Poor Dad? The Rich don't steal we just invest and create more wealth. We create passively instead of relying on the J.O.B mentality. We don't take players good brother. We create and they simple attract others. You would be surprised at how many players Coach Smith has turned away or how many kids with a All Met or All Star that he has had talk into staying at their current school. He has had to talk to several coaches about their kids wanting to leave names that we talk about often on this board that play for other schools.! There is no panic button at Eastside Prep with the talent that is in that school. Quarries is a good addition but he will have to fight for time with Ayers, two sophomores(Lavar Highsmith) and (Deon-Tay McManus). Now if you haven't seen these two young backs...well lets just way you haven't so this is the reason you said something sooo idiotic. Deon is probably 6 180 now and he's just a soph and Highsmith is slasher more like TA. Now player like TA come once in a generation but these soph will do just fine for the next 3 football seasons. Young Guru, the new additions will be fighting for time not filling a void. Dunbar has 2 other young QBs so Pittman will have to fight for a role and pick up another new playbook quickly. Its just that this year he won't have to deal with politics the pecking order of the rich kids dad throwing a stink about his son that was suppose start b4 Pittman transferred not starting, thus ecconomic contributions are not coming (just a hunch). Pittman was probably 3x better than that kid but you know how it is. Again we are reloaded and never counting kids coming in to make us better. When you win under the lights at night in front of Thousands EVERY week what do think your favorite little popwarner player or that player that plays in a terrible program or situation wants to go? You think a JV team that avg over 35 points a game that was probably score on twice didn't have young talent that came in the school as freshman? Come on brother YOU gotta do better. Transfers will just create more competition in a already competitive situation.

Next caller on the Dunbar hater hotline......I will be reading your hatemail until December. Who is next?

    Default Confirmed Information

It’s confirmed Countess is gone and will not be at Gilman next year. I saw this kid play last year and he is a beast, that loss will really hurt Gilman. Its hard to replace one of your top players no matter who you are. Who is left and a coach told you this is their best team in a long time. Let’s take a close look at this team. They have a quarterback who is really a receiver so he is playing out of position and we all know what offense they will run with him. They have a few big guys who are young. They have a few backs that may not be able to play because of grades, oh I forgot as long as they don’t fail too many classes (3 or less) they can go to summer school and get a passing grade to be eligible to play next year. It’s going to be tough years for Gilman make no mistake about it. I think Calvert Hall will run away with this thing, their coaching is suspect but they still have a few players left.

Don't know who told you that you could fail 3 classes at Gilman but your are highly mistaken. If you fail 3 classes at Gilman you will be asked to leave.

Countess has a lot of potential but Gilman is stacked with talent. Jennings has played QB his whole life, has never played WR and will be 1 of the best players in the state. Cal Ripkens son was a complete beast on the JV and am hearing he is looking incredible right now. The defense is stacked, but this is where Countess will be missed the most. Cyrus Jones has just as much ability if not more than Countess as a playmaker. Gilman is still the team to beat this year.

I watched the kid Cyrus at Northwood and PH. He is a player for REAL. I would like to see them and Dunbar in a game situation scrimmage this year. It would be interesting.

I love reading how meth validates the Dunbar "process" of "building" a team.

Yeah i would like to see that as well. Cyrus is the Real Deal without a doubt. I know his 1st love is basketball but IMO football is were he has the most potential. He could be a superstar on gridiron!

sickofit, I know you are off to your western MD boards with your "inside information". I guess its Alcos turn and I am hoping this won't be another year of recruiting crying over competing. I would probably say 1A is already locked for Dec. Best team between Forestville and Dunbar vs best between FH and alco. Good luck to all but before we get to Nov and Dec my young Poets have a lot of growing to do.

Well last year for Howard County, the top teams were River Hill, Wilde Lake, Marriotts Ridge, and Howard.

MR will definitely drop out of that picture because apparently their whole offense was made up of seniors. But they still have good coaching..

Howard has a good RB who will be a senior this year, AJ Bonav...(cant finish the rest) so they should still be in the top 5 in county.

River Hill and Wilde Lake will still probably be towards the top and Atholton will be up there as well, but Howard County i don't see being as strong compared to other years.

"inside info"? Hard to break news that is common knowledge my good man.

This year is going to be interesting. I still think Fort Hill has the edge for the 1A west. Alco will have a great backfield, not sure about the line. QB, coaching and line will be in Fort Hill's favor. But when it comes to playing Alco twice, you just never know. And most times, that's how it will play out for the 1A west.

I'm sure Fort Hill would love another crack at Dunbar. Nothing like being 2 seconds away from demystifying the "program".

I also think Long Reach will be in the mix. Many of the seniors on this team have been on varsity for three years and they were one of the only teams to score on River Hill's first team D last year.

I have been hearing big things from Atholton.

I would agree with the rest of your post.

We have nothing but respect for you guys on this side of MD. We'll see how it all shakes out in the end. Until then let the prognastications rule...at least until September.

Dunbar should have one of the Top backfields in the area with those guys and a duel threat QB. Yup, this year should be Benny Ball at its finest with Vass big on the Playaction from whoever wins the job at QB. They may have a 2 system QB system, who knows.
I find it very hard to believe that any parent in his/her right mind would take their kid out of Calvert Hall and send them to Dunbar. Maybe it could happen, maybe not but, what could they stand to gain by doing this, especiaslly from a scholastic standpoint. I just find it a little far fetched.

Golf, blame it on the ecconomy, Dunbar traditions couple with the new Jhop program and Courtney Bridgett Sr. Dunbar does not compare scholastically to Calvert Hall but if the end result is a scholarship to go school and to get a pretty good FREE highschool education what big issue. We are talking about a school that within the 3 years can be mentioned scholastically in the same breath as Poly and City with the new curriculum and Funding.

The MIAA will get an early indication how strong they are in the fall of 09. Gilman and St. Joe square off with Good Counsel in scheduled games, not scrimmages. I would guess Loyola will continue their scrimmage schedule with Good Counsel as well.

Good Counsel is reloading well from what I am reading, so it will be a good start to the fall season for full State bragging rights. DeMatha will follow with Gilman as usual.

The Good Counsel against St. Joe and Gilman is something that has been going around on the recruiting circuit.
