    Speaking of equations (which happens to be one of my many areas of expertise), Vlad was the DH and is gone and Nick J has been a DH for the O's and is here. Sounds like one of your many superiors in the front office made a choice and it was Nick in and Vlad out. Pretty stupid choice it seems.
    One might think a team would need a great bat like Vlad since he is out there.... NAH!

    Guess that goes to your other fantastic deduction that you are smarter than every GM in baseball.

    We are all ears, oh wise one...

    Nick, your deficiencies in logical thinking are highlighted with each successive post on this topic. Try to follow along:

    1. The discussion that we were having was the choice made by someone in the O's front office to sign Nick J rather than Hall of Famer Vlad;

    2. The opinions of all National League GM's to not sign Vlad are irrelevant since they don't use DH's;

    3. The opinion of most other GM's in the American League to not sign Vlad are not relevant because many of those teams have very effective DH's;

    4. The O's didn't sign their DH and clean-up hitter who had the highest batting average on the team and instead signed Nick J.

    I like #2 best.

    That has that nice touch of so blantantly obvious, that it's almost somewhat of a suprise when you pull it out of the hat. Almost seemingly usable if one is flat-ling in an old age home or something.

    The NL doesnt use the DH...love it.

    Nick, in our brief exchange this morning, you've identified four areas where you need improvement. Your weaknesses include a physical challenge drinking a soda without messing up your face and mental challenges associated with equations, logic and now memory.

    Have you forgotten that in post 121 you invoked the decisions of ALL GM's not to sign Hall of Famer Vlad as validation of the O's decision to sign Nick J rather than Vlad?

    Try to do better. I understand that your employment requires you to support everything the O's do but defending Nick over Vlad is an argument to be avoided.

    Being the clear minded logical thinker that I am, I assumed your reference to all other GM's was in the context of the discussion we were actually having - the O's decision not to offer Vlad a contract and sign Nick J instead.

    If it was simply an extraneous thought that was intended as a diversion from our conversation, I follow you. I'm just not used to muddled thinking where an unrelated topic is introduced into a conversation.

    On your point, I'm not sure whether or not I'm smarter than all other GM's in MLB since I don't follow them as closely as the O's. I do think that anyone who would consider Nick J an upgrade over Vlad pretty much discredits themselves.

    Off to meetings. Give my regards to your colleagues in the front office and most especially to Peter A. Try to avoid any age related insults when you're in his presence.

    How much does Nick Johnson get paid? How much would Vlad have wanted? Last year he got $8 million. I think you are comparing apples to oranges.

    Word of warning Ivan....Hector is about to read the above text as..

    "So you say Vlad wanted 22 million a season to play for the O's?... That is crazy and it takes 4 pitched balls to draw a walk, not three"

    I thought they signed Wilson betemit instead of Vlad, since he was signed to be the primary DH, but could also fill in at a couple defensive roles. then later on they also signed Nick. calling Nick a replacement for near HOFer Vlad is like saying they signed Paulino instead of near HOFer Vlad. or they signed Dontrelle Willis instead of near HOFer Vlad.

    In Moneyball Vlad would not have been valued up very much by Jonah Hill.

    Your desire to save Mr. Angelos money is admirable indeed. I take it you're not one of the many posters who thinks Mr. Angelos is too cheap to sign top notch or even Hall of Fame bound players. There are plenty of Nick Johnsons around that will "play" cheap and maybe the O's can find a few more. Nothing beats setting a high standard.

    I don't want to save money for anyone. I wanted the O's to sign Fielder. And I do think Angelos is too cheap to sign top notch players.

    Point I was making was that the Orioles probably didn't simply look at Vlad and Johnson and decide Johnson is the better player. I'm sure money had something to do with it.

    I agree with you that money likely enters into any decision on which players to sign. That's common sense. But I haven't seen anything anywhere including this Board to suggest that the O's tried to re-sign Vlad at a lower salary. It seems like they just let him go and after the smoke cleared, Nick J is on the roster and Vlad isn't. That's a pretty horrible trade-off.

    In Star Wars rifle skills wasn't considered important to being a soldiers.

    Lets keep things in the realm of non-fiction.
