I watched season 1. It's extremely well done. Probably the most intense show I've ever seen. I had to give up after the first season. Just too intense for me.

Dexter is probably the best show on TV right now. It is perfect. They need to end it soon I think. Otherwise all of their fans are going to die from hypertension-related illnesses.

Great show, highly recommended. Michael C. Hall is amazing, he has wonderful comic timing. Best use of voiceover I've seen in a long time. Great supporting cast as well.

I'm still waiting for Season 3 on DVD.

My daughter gave me Seasons 1 and 2. I had been hesitant to watch because I am a huge fan of the books and did not want to be disappointed. The series has absolutely blown me away - the best adaptation from book to film I have seen in a long time.

Season 5 of "The Shield' is widely regarded as the most intense season of television ever produced. The final minutes of the final episode are probably the most uncomfortable few minutes in the history of scripted drama's.

I'm a huge fan of The Shield, but Dexter even goes beyond the "crooked cop" storyline. It presents a moral ambiguity. I'm simultaneously watching the new season (how about the Trinity Killer, eh?) and watching season 2 on dvd. Glad someting is there to fill the void left by the conclusion of The Wire, and The Sopranos, for that matter.

One thing about the finale of The Shield, it was obvious that Vic was going to get a comeuppance, and the only one that made sense was the one he got. An action junkie - I don't think there was one scene in the whole series that showed him sleeping or being woken up - can not be punished any worse than to be put behind a desk.

I was talking about the Season 5 Finale, when Lem and Shane were talking, and you just knew Shane was going to do what we didn't want him to do, and before you know it there's a 'clank' as a grenade is dropped in the drivers seat of the car Lem is sitting in.
THAT was the most uncomfortable 5 minutes in TV history.

The series finale in Season 7 was also quite just.

I was simply trying to say that Dexter may be intense and it's a great show in its own right, but when I hear the words "intense television" I think of The Shield.

No, I am seriously deploring a fictional genre that celebrates the compulsion to murder. Please note I expressed the same thing about the Sopranos which also included torture and theft as a way of life. More and more people are becoming enamored of antihero -heroes who are actually psychologically ill/criminal personalities in books, tv shows and video games. Morality gets blurred for entertainment. The problem is that there are some easily influenced to believe that it's okay to do these things. Yes, I know some peole can hadle it and pull back but I see others who increasingly cannot.

Just because it's entertaining doesn't mean it isn't harmful.

I gently inquire as to your feelings of Robin Hood and of Javert ? I ask this because as an African-American I feel an admiration toward both John Brown and Nat Turner and as a lad of comic books I understand fully the motives and actions of Batman.

I am but a practicing playwright with scant success but aspire to the Artists who as Plato would have approved of move us to tears, tremor and laughter allowing us to purge ourselves of our own urges allowing us to proceed withe our higher natures.

I think it is a healthy thing to allow our darker selves to indulge themselves in artistic endeavours so our better selves may perform the best of ourselves in the work we do.
