    You're right. NPR has had many topics discussed on its radio programs. I listen to it from time to time when traveling to work. I like its approach even though it can get boring at times. I love the SNL skit that they do on NPR. Funny stuff and very close to the real thing.

    When has it ever been different?

    Why would you ever use popularity as a requirement for quality?

    American Idol is popular. When's the last time you heard folk at work talk about The Sound and the Fury?

    You sir willingly accept that popularity is justification for governing. If the people prefer mediocrity to quality, why do you wish them to vote upon any issue? Why do you want a wide franchise instead of a narrow one of people that can recognize quality?

    You can dismiss representative, republican government as "popularity" and try (for the sake of this discussion) to equate electing legislators with choosing American Idol over NPR, but I suspect you know better.
