Default Shutter Island: A friendly Warning

I just saw Shutter Island. Don't waste your money. Unevenly acted and unevenly directed and predictable. A few good moments but surprisingly bad given the cast. But I guess even DiCaprio can't turn a pigs ear into a silk purse.

Mark Ruffalo was excellent in his supporting role, but Ben Kingsley and DiCaprio looked to me like they telegraphed their roles in from Cancun in between Coronas.

The supporting bit characters were quite good in some instances and if it weren't for them I would have fallen asleep. Scorsese seems to have directed this film using text messages on his blackberry while in a hot tub in Hollywood. If I were him I'd be embarrassed to have so tainted my reputation. I feel insulted thatt someone with his track record would try to palm this movie off as worthy of the name Scorsese.

doesn't that have DeCaprio? If that's the one, that's reason enough to stay away.

Because almost no one reads the Movie section? It'll get moved once a mod finds it.

Meanwhile, thanks for the warning, Sage.

    Heyyyyyyy, you were right!

I don't know why anyone would spend money to see a movie anymore. They are ovepriced and the acting is horrible nowadays. How much is popcorn at a theatre now? Avatar would be an exception, but I haven't seen it and I might when it comes out in a few months. I'll rent it from Redbox for $1.

I hadn't even heard of it, but thanks for the wanning.

99:100 of todays movies seem like remakes, or old stories just rehashed under a new premise, or facelift.

The Departed and The Aviator, both Scorsese directed movies starring DiCaprio, are 2 of the best movies of the last decade.

This is the third Scorsese directed movie starring DiCaprio.... If I go by track record, this should be another good flick.

Dang this was the one movie I was planning to see in theaters this season. Scorcese and DiCaprio have an awesome track record together; I thought this movie would be pretty good, but not excellent. Interesting.

The last DiCaprio movie I saw, Revolutionary Road, was underwhelming as well. It seemed like he and Kate Winslet did nothing except get angry and smoke cigarettes at each other.

Well, now you can go see something else!
Alice in Wonderland in 3D, Clash of the Titans in 3D, Wall St 2...

still some good flicks left before the summer onslaught.

curently a fresh 68% that is pretty good for rotten tomatoes and makes it one of the better rated movies currently in theaters

LOL @ Wall Street 2, that movie doesn't look good at all. Horrible attempt at a sequel. It barely resembles the original.

Alice in Wonderland, Iron Man 2, those 2 films will be good.

Don't waste your time on the movie. Read the book. Shutter Island is by Dennis LeHane, who has 2 other books made into movies, Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone. A few years ago, he took some time off from writing books to write for The Wire.

so... don't waste my time on the movie because the guy who wrote it also wrote 2 of my favorite entertainment experiences of the last decade?

the wire and mystic river were both great. why should i NOT see this, now?

On another forum I frequent, they have nothing but good things to say. The previews definitely got my attention...I might go see it soon.

I saw it. I enjoyed it. I was upset with the direction it went. Every "insane asylum" movie that is missing a person goes in this direction. However the part I did like about the ending is it makes you question what was real and what was a lie and chances are we will never know. Its possible the first 3/4 of the movie were a lie or was the last 1/4 a lie?

The movie is similar to Identity with John Cusack (which came out out before the author wrote the book for Shutter Island in 2003) and Secret Garden/ Secret Window with Johnny Depp.
