Thumbs up I Am At Peace With This Team

When the throws of the 2010 season are in place, I think we will all learn a few things about the character and makeup of the Baltimore Orioles. The preparations were made, the execution of the plan is firmly in place and the prospects of an exciting 2010 season lay in front of us to embrace and celebrate!

    The Plan:

Grow the roots of a vibrant franchise from the inside out. A strong and intensely competitive farm system that is fertile territory to develop a pipeline of young stars. THIS is in place! Matusz, Tillman, Bergesen, Arrieta, Hernandez, Reimold, Pie, Jones, Wieters, Bell, Snyder, Berken are just the tip of the iceberg of young talent assembled through smart drafting and sharp trades.

    MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

The cool thing is that most of these youngsters will be an instant improvement over last year just due to their natural ascent to their high ceilings. Wieters will bring even BETTER offensive numbers than last season's debut. Same for The Preying Matusz and Tillman. While we will feel a sadness in seeing some of our favorites leaving the squad like Melvin Mora, Andy smartly infused fresh new veteran talent into the mix. Miguel Tejada and Garrett Adkins bring big bats and a veteran presence to the budding Orioles offensive arsenal. The fact that Tejada wanted to come to Baltimore is a nice gesture to the fans who may have thought he wanted a bridge burned. He could have gone many different places, but I feel he wants to prove to Baltimore Oriole fans that the tragic mistakes he made during his first run with the Orioles are in the past and he is itchin' and driven to make this new chapter his all-time best. Kudos to Miggy for manning up and welcome back to the nest!

Nick Markakis and Brian Roberts bring a steady consistancy to the team. The question mark will be the bullpen, but Andy seems to have built this team to give us many options in the pen. If the pen is set, we are in business!

    In Conclusion:

There is no QUESTION that the Orioles future gets better everyday. I am excited about the upcoming season. I will continue my assessment of the team's progress as they move through spring training.

    Go O's!

I always enjoy the W-L thread with the excuses.

Must be tough to come up with new ones.

Trembley has already declared that he will use a five man rotation, and the players cannot drink hard liquor while on the bench (this doesn't apply to the third base coach).

    Travis----

His name is Atkins, not Adkins.

Always helps to know their names. It's not as though he's been in MLB for years or anything. When you actually know the names of the people on the team, it helps to validate your opinion.

Well there you go, Ghost. The leader of the Kool Aid drinkers declares Mission Accomplished. I guess MacPhail must really be done rebuilding then. Hampden, did you endorse this? I thought rebuilding couldn't be done in less then three years?

The O's were the worst team in the AL last year.

Angelos says he's very satisfied, and Travis Moon says "Mission Accomplished."

I always suspected that losing was the goal, but it's nice to see them admit as much.

People who declare the future as not bright for this team = not Orioles fans.

I hate to break it to you but most of the guys you mentioned were already in the system before MacPhail got here. You and Hampden must be drinking from the same Kool Aid.

The future is bright. The present is not yet you will declare greatness for the 13th season in a row. And you will be wrong for the 13th season in a row. Your Cal Ripkenesque consistency is amazing.

Read again. It says "The Plan". I did not mention Andy in that paragraph. Projecting your MacPhail hate?

MacPhail has done an excellent job of getting the team to a place where the only way to go is up.

They can't drop any lower in team ERA or the AL standings.

See how that works? Now, if MacPhail returns the team to 4th Place, he's a hero.

Nevermind the fact that the team was already in 4th Place when he arrived.

The Plan? That whole phrase was coined by MacPhail. Nobody called it "The Plan" before MacPhail joined the Orioles. Nothing to do with projecting hate, just calling a spade a spade. You know what you meant when you wrote it. Don't back out just because you were called out. Admit you were wrong and move on. People will forgive you.

The late, Syd Thrift, (RIP) coined the phrase originally.

harv, I think I gave a balance view of the offseason above. You actually asked me what I thought. That's all you take from it?
