I wish we were America's team!! We were actually in the upper echelons of baseball for a long time. Players wanted to play here.... were happy to come here.... would take less money to stay here.

    I just miss those days.

You know, just when I had reached my threshold of negativity and doomsayers around here... leave it to the original Sunshine Pumper to remind me what the season will be like.

Maybe not as much as The Dallas Cowboys or The Oakland Raiders, but there were definitely some of us for sure. I'm sure that today those types of "nationwide" Oriole fans are few and far between........ if any at all.

You'd be suprised how many Orioles fans there are outside of the Baltimore market. The Orioles were actually being discussed on the Huskers Illustrated "Red Sea Scrolls" forum. Some one asked how many Orioles fans were out there and I was shocked and pumped at the response.

There would be a lot more Orioles fans if they became relevant again. It's so aggravating when it's only June and your team is already out of the playoff hunt.

Yes I remember being in Mexico, Venezuela and the DR in the 90's and people wearing Oriole hats. The club had a decent following. Camden Yards was once a ticket that everyone desired from 92-99, movies being filmed there, stars coming out (Selick, Murray, Major League II and Queens and Prince's used to come. Remember Bill Murray getting my seat in the All Star game. Baltimore was once a happening place, wish it would return to that.

Exactly..... my nephews are all HUGE baseball fans. But only 1 out of the 4 of them is an Orioles fan, the oldest one, who's 18..... and we LIVE IN BALTIMORE!!

The second oldest (14) is a Yankees fan. The next (13) is an Indians fan. The youngest (12) doesn't really root for anybody.

You're right. It seems like all kids want to root for a winner. I don't remember this being true when I was a kid but I also grew up as a kid in the mid to late 70's and early 80's when the O's were winning. A lot of my friend's and co-worker's kids are growing up as Yankee and Red Sox fans, much to the dismay of their parents. It's the product of a few things. The Orioles stink, and as a result their parents don't really take them to that many games so they don't develop that bond. On top of that kids are brutal at that age in school so it doesn't help backing a pathetic franchise like the Orioles.

Being an Oriole fan from the day I was born, I just could never see myself rooting for anyone else. EVER.

    But that's just me!

I've been an O's fan since the mid 1960's, and have been loyal during the good and bad times. I grew up in Dallastown, PA, and now live in Columbus, OH. I have been "ragged on" since I moved here in 87, but I will never give up the O's. Nice piece TM.

The eternal optimist (TM) vs the eternal pessimist(GO)

Should be interesting to see the two worlds collide.

    I'm not a pessimist. I'm a realist.

The team makes bad decisions which result in lots of losses.

Travis, thanks for this post. At the end of the season, when the team has crashed and burned again, I'll sure it will reappear.

Doesn't "at peace" usually mean the end of something?
