Man...should have looked before I crossed the street...never saw that bus coming...lol...well here goes. Pickiing Bama, FLA, OK MI, GA, AZ, UCLA and MO to play in June. Looking for BAMA to win it all. And no, i'm not discounting TN and their speed, but think the MI bat's and experience will prevail...nor am I doubting DL in the circle for UDub...but these hitters have seen the pitchers enough, either live or on tape. ..your thoughts.

My thoughts - you were right on with your OK-Wash pick, at least for game 1. That 2B from Oklahoma had quite a game. The camera angles were bad, but it looked like she should have had her 4th homer of the game. I guess she'll settle for 3-3 (3 HRs) with a walk though. Ricketts seemed to be on too. If she can keep that up, Oklahoma might win it all. Today is a new day though.

Glad I don't bet! I would have NEVER expected DL to get slapped around like that! But I still think they are the odds on favorites in this Super Regional, and could very well repeat as WCWS champions. I just don't see Lawrie carrying last night into today. At the same time, OK knows that she is not bullet-proof. That could be HUGE for the Sooners

I hear you on OK, Rickettes is dialing in now and bats are hots...plus they have won it before. However, Dunn is no joke at Bama and they can flat out HIT and got speed. UDubb may surprise me, but I belive/hope Bama is gonna do it....now that I'm out on the limb...and totally jinxed Bama, they will probabaly get run ruled and I will look like a complete boob....lol...but guess that's why they play and we all watch

You'd think that this time of year it would come down to the pitchers. I'm sure that both the Washington pitcher and whoever gets the start for Michigan will get things settled down for their teams. However, the Tennessee pitcher did have Michigan's number last night. The hardest hit balls off her went into the Michigan dugout !!!

The Washington bats were pretty quite in the regionals (only scoring a total of 6 runs with 3 of them coming against N. Dakota St.). If the Washington bats continue to sleep it will be night-night for DL and the Wildcats...

That was VERY scary! Considering the shortened distance, I really don't understand why the dugouts aren't entirely protected. I have seen a million close calls. And it looks like Mich lost its lead-off last night, on a foul ball. The players might prefer to hang out at the top of the steps. But it would not be the first, or only, thing that players prefer but adults should change anyways!

I THINK I agree with you on the pitching. But offenses have become more and more explosive and influential in big games over the past decade. My only concern before last night with Wash. was the fact that they did NOT score a lot last weekend. I thought that if any one could put up 4 or 5, they had a VERY good chance against the Huskies. But when you look at an Alabama, you feel like you will need more runs than 5 to feel "safe". So the old guy in me wants to say it is all centered on pitching at this point of the season. But as I watch the games, the bats might have more to say about it when the rubber hits the road.

What do the sages of the board think on this?

University of Delaware Athletics Announces New Role for Softball Head Coach B.J. Ferguson

    DATE: May 25, 2010

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware softball head coach Bonnie Jill “B.J.” Ferguson (at right), who won over 600 games in a 30-year tenure in women’s athletics, will assume a once familiar role within the University, Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Bernard Muir announced today.

Ferguson, who also held the title of Associate Professor while coaching, will refocus her career once again as a full-time faculty member in the College of Health Sciences at UD.

“B.J.’s legacy in Blue Hen athletics history will always remain strong. I am pleased that she is remaining a part of the University family,” said Muir.

Ferguson posted a career-record of 622-583-8 since beginning her duties as softball head coach in 1981 and ends her tenure with the second highest win total of any UD women’s head coach behind Barbara Viera, who posted a record of 682-433-4 in 27 years with the volleyball squad in 1973-99.

Her 30-year tenure as the Blue Hen softball coach was the longest by any head coach of a women’s sport at the University of Delaware and tied for sixth longest among all coaches, trailing only Roy Rylander (41 years in men’s tennis), Bob Hannah (36 years in baseball), Harold R. “Tubby” Raymond (36 years in football), Harry Rawstrom (35 years in men’s swimming), and Bob Shillinglaw (currently 32 years in men’s lacrosse). She is tied with Loren Kline, who coached men’s soccer for 30 years.

Ferguson’s teams recorded 20 or more wins 15 times, including a school-record mark of 36-14 in 2000, and advanced to the league tournament on 17 occasions. Delaware won league titles in 1983 and 1984, capturing the East Coast Conference regular season title both years and winning the league tournament in 1984 with an overall mark of 17-13.

The team also finished as league runner-up three times, most recently in 2004. The Hens advanced to the four-team Colonial Athletic Association Tournament once over the last six seasons.

A 1979 graduate of Springfield (Mass.) College, Ferguson reached the 600-win milestone late in the 2009 season when the Blue Hens defeated Army on Apr. 22 and coached her 1,000th career game during the 2006 season when the Blue Hens downed Delaware State 7-0 on March 18. She was named league Coach of the Year three times, being honored by the ECC in 1986, by America East in 1997, and by the CAA in 2003.

In addition to her softball duties, Ferguson served as head coach of the Blue Hen women's tennis team for 12 seasons ending in 1992. During her tenure, she guided her teams to a dual record of 103-62 and led the squad to back-to-back ECC titles in 1987 and 1988. In winning her 100th career match at the helm of the tennis team in 1992,

Ferguson became only the second coach in Delaware history to collect 100 victories coaching two different sports.

She stepped down as tennis coach in 1992 when she assumed the administrative responsibility of heading NCAA compliance for the Delaware athletics department. She held that position until 1995.

Ferguson majored in physical education at Springfield, earning a masters degree in teaching and administration in 1980.

“After having devoted over half my life of service to the athletic department in the role of Head Softball Coach, I will begin a new chapter in my career refocusing again on my position as an Associate Professor in the College of Health Sciences,” said Ferguson. “My journey over the past 30 years has resulted in seeing many young and undeveloped athletes grow and mature into empowered and victorious women; it has been in those triumphs that I have

Watched many games with Larry during summer showcases during the past five years and IMO he seemed to be one the more down to earth "tell it like it is" guys. Wish him well.

Default Never count out Danielle Lawrie

Huskies are back in the WCWS - after losing the first game badly, DL pitched two consecutive shutouts, allowing a total of 7 hits, to knock out a good-looking Oklahoma team. Looked like she thought she had something to prove.
