    I don't know why people beat up the mods. From what I have seen they let all threads stand unless they get too blatantly ugly or racist, or there are too many personal attacks between posters. Otherwise, opinions from the far right and far left are allowed to stand and be debated. Pretty much if you give your opinion, and don't get personal about it, you will be fine.

    They need to bring back reputation points.

    The forums didn't need moderators when reputation could be given out because posters would fairly judge other posters based on the content of their posts, even when they might disagree with a particular poster.

    I think it was more of a combination of both reputation points and large signatures that some posters had that helped keep everyone in line.
