Sadly I think ungrateful CHEAP patrons made restaurants start doing this!!! Since the waiter was so patient with my SCREAMING grandson I left extra. I'm sure he knows this is my favorite restaurant and I come often.

My mother always said "If you can't afford to tip you shouldn't be eating out...." I consider myself VERY blessed so I ALWAYS tip (Barbershop, airport bus driver who picked up us Buckeyes headed to Osu etc.)
I usually tip 20% or at least $5, whichever is more. I leave a dollar or two when the food is brought out to my car like at Sonic, but when I can I walk into the place and get the food myself so I don't have to tip. I usually tip barbers 20%. I don't know how much I'm supposed to tip a delivery guy, usually I do a dollar or two, not sure if thats good enough. I usually don't tip cab drivers but let them keep the change. I have no idea if cabbies make minimum wage or if they have a salary or how much of the fare already goes to them. I leave a dollar tip in a hotel room and never call room service.

I wonder how come stewardesses don't make tips.

I consider myself a good tipper, 20-25% generally. Social custom or not, I just think it's the right thing to do given how restaurant workers are paid. Now, when the government enters the picture.....

I hate tipping cabbies. Most that I have met are a-holes
