    Default Late to the party..lol

I just joined a few days ago. I am a paranormal investigator and the founder of the Greater Maryland Paranormal Society. And this would have been far more interesting had I been here to comment when it was posted..lol. We have been around since 2006 and have gone to lots of haunted homes and businesses. In fact we are in contract to investigate 4 more between now and Jan 2011.

There is a reason that outside of the urban legends, you dont hear alot about homes or other places that are haunted is because the owners or truely haunted places dont want the world to know about there place. Look at the house from Haunting in Ct or Amityville Horror. The poor people who live there have to deal with people all the time bugging them about the house, and taking pictures at all hours of the day and night. And most of our clients want to avoid that and dont want to become the haunted house of there street. In fact I was just on the A&E show "Pyschic Kids", and our client who was used on the show was worried that her house would end up being one of these places. Thankfully they are in a area that is not on any main drags and the show did not show too much of the outside of the home.

Just thought I would post...while late I thought that maybe you all might like to know alittle about the haunted homes of the area. There are many, and you drive passed them all the time I am sure. Or maybe have even shoped or eaten somewhere that has activity. Its just not something that many would want you to know about.

Welcome to Sunspot. I haven't done paranormal investigations in years. Lately I've been concentrating upon Alchemy and Ceremonial Magic. But I know of a few hot spots in Maryland and other places. I'm also very interested in hearing about your adventures into the dark. Your right about Haunted Real Estate. Most people don't want it known that their houses are haunted. But a Bed and Breakfast will hire you in heart beat to gather evidence and promote that they are haunted. The haunted B&B has developed a certain chic. People want to spend the night in a haunted house. Just don't want to live in one. I think find some interest in your stories here. Just keep in mind many of us are very good at debunking politicians. We can probably pick apart a good ghost story just as easily.

Cashtown Inn in Pa is a great example of a B&B who's paranormal stories have turned a place that was on the brink of going out of business to not finding rooms open even in the Gettysburg off season. A few years ago I was interviewed my the Sun in regards to people who were not able to sell there homes because of paranormal activity in it. But we had never come in contact with anyone who could not sell there home. We had come across a few who jumped ship and moved because what was found. But in the end they not only use anything we had talked about, they published the story and talked to people who claim to be a psychic, but also charges for her service. So after that story was published, I was so happy that me and my team were not in the story.

As far as picking apart ghost stories, you might not get too many chances at that as most of or cases are private and I would be very limited to what I can talk about. And the subject of the paranormal may not be something that will pop up all that much between now and next Oct. But I will chime in when the subject comes up. And of course I am on here should someone want to talk about the paranormal in general. I will say that through my childhood and teen years I lived in a house that had activity, and again after the death of my mom and my Civil War reenacting years I also had run ins with the paranormal. I started researching it in 2001 and from then til 2006 I investigated on my own. In 2007 I founded the Greater Maryland Paranormal Society and we have been busy helping clients ever since.

I am looking forward to being on here and talking about this subject, and others.

I stayed with a friend in Mt. Ranier who lived just down the street from a place where a big widely-known exoricism case happened. It was reportedly the case on which the Movie , the exorcist was based (the movie set it in Georgetown)

That is where the boy became possessed. But the exorcism was not held there. The exorcism was held in St. Louis. I think Father Halloran is the only member of the exorcism team that is still living.

Ahhh...I see. Was this covered in the newspapers or media when it was happening, either in the MT. Ranier market or in St.Louis?

Maybe this year it was Bengals' ghosts, since they swept the Ravens last year and then have played like they're DEAD this year.

Not that I'm aware of. Most of what is known about it comes from family, friends and vatican sources.

Mt. Rainer was not in fact the place were the "true" story of The Exorcist took place. This is another uban legend. The place where it did take place (and that is up for question) was Cottage City Md.

It's possible. Mt Rainier and Cottage City are right next to each other. It might be like Brooklyn. There are three other area's that people will call Brooklyn that are not. They are Curtis Bay (Baltimore City), Brooklyn Park (Anne Arundel County), and Lansdowne (Baltimore County). It could be a case of not being familiar with the particulars of the local geography. So the place got tagged as Mt. Rainier.

Oh! Another thought. That could be considered Mt. Rainier on Vatican maps that draw up the diocese and parishes. The Vatican has been very tight lipped about it. Most of what is known comes from church leaks. There are a few people outside the church that know about it. Very few. But for the most part people in that area, what ever you call it, think it's urban legend. But it did indeed happen.

The true story of the Exorcist is formed of two events that occured in two different places. The first event was the possession in Cottage City. The second event was the actual exorcism in St. Louis. The movie has everything occuring in one place. Frankly when they made The Exorcist II. Instead of trying to recapture a past glory that remained elusive. The Exorcist II should have been a telling of the real story. I think that would have been the movie everyone had to see like the Exorcist was.

But I think the Vatican was very tight lipped on this for two reasons. Not only to protect the identity of the child. But this was a possession by the devil himself. So they also tried to keep the location of where the possession took place a secret. This was because it could possibly be a Hellmouth. The blood soaked grounds of Cottage City can only lend creedence to that theory.

Default For the real lowdown on the exorcist story.

If someone wants to read the real lowdown on the story of the exorcist they should go to www.strangemag.com for what is prob the most accurate artcile about the incident. Something I find significant is that this kid was an out and out brat in the 1940's and Im sure that much of what has been overplayed was in fact bad behavior on his part. Like slashing a priests arm with a bedspring if that did indeed happen. Even his best friend years later spoke of how this kid could be a rea l "terror" Many people with Epilepsy or Touretts Syndrome have also been said to be possessed. It does make for a good story tho. Again if you want to read a really good article about all of this go to www.strangemag.com.

If it was the Spanish Flu, then it was 1918. It even swept the battlefields of Europe during WW1. I think it killed my gr-uncle.
