I have both. Love both. If you plan to do much reading/writing...then having the larger screen of the iPad is a plus. But, I can't put the iPad in my pocket...but I can with my iPhone. I am never without my iPhone.

Good luck. You will have to use VoIP for phone calls on the iPad. It has no phone chip. Also, the iPhone has Bluetooth, so, if your car is equipped, you can make hands-free calls using the iPhone...you can't with the iPad.

I'm looking at the iPhone 4 as I'm up for an upgrade with Verizon, but I'm not sure between the 16 GB and the 32 GB. I'm not sure why I'd need that extra memory...apps? movies? music? I don't currently have a smartphone so it's all new to me. I don't ever download music to my phone as I just use my ipod, so I'm not really sure what I'd need all that memory for. Do apps take up a lot of space?

I'm also looking at the Droids through Newegg. It looks like I can renew my Verizon 2 year plan with a Droid X (free) or Droid Incredible ($50). I'll have to do some more research. Question for anyone that knows...if I upgrade through Newegg, is that the same as going through Verizon directly (I've always renewed/upgraded through Verizon's website in the past)?

OK, I just looked at the "About" page on my iPhone 4. I have 32GB phone. The operating system takes up some of that 32GB, I think about 3GB.

Here's what it says I have in my phone:

    - 78 applications
    - 6 videos (home made videos, not Hollywood movies)
    - 42 songs
    - 1,002 photos (I take a lot of photos..great way to show the Mrs something from a store, etc...just went to home depot the other day to pick out brick, she wasn't with me, but took pictures of the bricks and emailed to her so that she could decide on styles and colors...saves a lot of driving back and forth...very handy)

    Remaining/avalailable capacity: 26.5 GB

Can't help you on the upgrade. My provider is AT&T, and while verizon offers better coverage in remote areas, AT&T is faster downloads and will allow you to both talk and surf the internet at the same time. I don't use that feature much, but when you need it, it beats having to call someone back after you've gotten the directions or information you need off the Internet.

    Good liuck.

Kinda leaves the iPad out. I think you would look strang walking around with an iPad to your ear...

My wife has the iPhone IOS4 and a iPad (1) she uses them all the time. I've see her use the iPhone for "facebook" but most of the time she on the iPad. The "facebook" app for the iPhone is a bunch different then what you see on a computer/iPad. Had to explain it to her as she really doesn't do computers very well......

I have both an iphone and an ipad, and I prefer the iphone, as I need to use it to make many Business Long Distance calls. However, I hear that there is a good app for the ipad that is a good Business VoIP Telephone Solution. So if you are looking to make long distance calls, look into these options.

This is the baddest Droid out there...

Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 46

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817...id=6aJqN5m4K2K

    Best part....

Transmissions through the phone sounded tinny and scratchy, but at least background noise cancellation was solid. Battery life, on the other hand, was just spectacular; I got 8 hours, 48 minutes of talk time on the Epic Touch's whopping 1800 mAh battery.
Almost 9 hours of talk time. Completely ridiculous, and the one thing that was a pain about smartphones...battery life. Not anymore.

the Galaxy Nexus is the baddest phone on the block (whenever the hell it comes out...)

4G LTE (something the iPhone 4S is missing for some god forsaken reason, else I'd own one. Thats the only thing that kept me from jumping on the 4S)
Instant shutter camera (6 pics per second) [5mp vs most phones 8megapixel. However, unless creating a giant poster, 5megapixels is fine. No phone will replace a real camera. It is the phones 1 perceived 'weakness', but the instant shutter speed makes up for it]
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (Androids shot across iOS' bow- the tech world is unanimous that 4.0ICS is a giant leap in the right direction as far as customizing and user experience goes. And it's much faster than any other version of android.)
4.65inch 1280x720p High Definition AMOLED screen (blows iPhone and every other phone out of the water: I believe it's the first true-HD 4G phone. Most every other phone has an 800x600 resolution.)
32gb internal storage on single partition: no SD cards, instead a single drive SSD = incredibly fast phone (see: iPhones)

The G-Nexus isn't even out, and it was listed as #2 on TIME's top 10 gadgets of 2011 list. (iPad 2 was rightfully #1)

Whenever the F it comes out, I will have it. Verizon/Samsung/Google have made a clusterf$#@ out of the launch. Should be out within the next 10 days. And on Verizon's super-freaking-fast LTE network.

if you just want to read and use internet the Kindle is much cheaper . I have both the iphone and ipad. Use the ipad only on the go and usually use my iphone more. Now I want to wait for the new iphone before I buy another but feel for the money I can get a cheaper version of the ipad through other companies.
