Hey Peez it is good to see someone else who loves to win. I get so tired of seeing all these people complain, complain and more complanits. It is as if they would rather be losers. I guess than they would all go and have a merry old time about how bad the Ravens are.lol

I recall similar comments.....from loyalists in 1935 Germany!

Regardless, what I saw from Joe is a guy who knows how to avoid throwing interceptions when field position is critical. But, the guy is no Peyton, or Brady and this team will win a SB because of the team around him. He's not a leader and that's OK cuz we got Ray and Ray!!!!

I think he may not be a super super star like Brady or Peyton but he is a star. Just by winning he deserves this recognition. Look at his 5 years and you see even Brady or manning can't equal his winning pct. Maybe when Manning and Brady are done Joe will finally be seen as a true star. No more, no less but people have to be on drugs to say he is not very good. He just wins baby. And at many times in the 5 years without Ray, Reed , Ngahta, or many stars.

It's funny to me... this week Preston focuses on the idea that "no elite QB would have made the throw to Rice" in that situation.

Maybe not. But if you're going to use that as an argument, it's fair to ask... "Which elite QB has picked up a last-play 4th and 29 by throwing the ball downfield in to heavy coverage?" in the last 11 years... How often does an "elite QB" pick up a 4th-and-forever-or-lose first down by throwing long in to a crowd of 7 or 8 defenders?

I'll always point out the Patriots '07 Superbowl performance. Brady won 3 Superbowls by being a LOT more like Joe Flacco, statistically good but not video game good... and while incredibly productive in recent years, hasn't won it all while airing it out with reckless abandon. With 3 TOs left, 29 seconds on the clock, and needing a FG to tie the Giants in '07, Brady dropped back on every play of their final possession looking to throw deep. 3 TOs left mind you. They started on their 26. Between sideline routes and their TOs, it was VERY possible for Brady to drive them 40 yards in 4 plays to set up a long FG to maybe tie. But they didn't even entertain that idea... they just dropped back and heaved it long. He completed NOTHING in heavy back-end coverage, and took a costly sack in the process. They could have used Moss and the other deeper threats to clear out room for Welker, Faulk, and maybe Watson to run a few 10-12 yard underneath route. But the brilliant and accurate future HoF QB (and I'm not being sarcastic) just threw a bunch of glorified Hail Marys.

The Tom Brady who won 3 SB titles was a 60% guy who averaged 24 TDs and 13 INTs per year through his first 6 seasons as a starter. That was a guy who would have approached that final set of downs in SB 42 thinking... how can I best get in to position to keep this game going. Instead, that Tom Brady saw 3rd and 20, and 4th and 20, with a trophy on the line... and said, "What the hell, I'm throwing the bomb"... and it didn't work. But we don't seem to remember that.

So maybe it's not always about throwing the deep ball. Maybe the best bet in that situation WAS giving the ball to Rice in space (since the Chargers didn't lose / ignore a WR streaking down the sideline) and hoping he'd make a play, vs. trying to force a throw to one of 4 receivers being covered by 7 defenders.

I could care less about the "Elite" QB's. I'm just glad Joe made this throw. Say what you will, I don't look a win as a defeat.

I recall similar comments too ...

    • 2008 - Flacco is a game manager, but cannot lead the team back in Q4
    • 2009 - This team will never defeat the Steelers with Flacco at QB
    • 2010 - This team will never defeat a good team on the road with Flacco at QB
    • 2011 - This team will never win the AFC North as long as Pittsburgh is around with (you guessed it) Flacco at QB
    • 2012 - Flacco takes so many hits, he will be out after a few games

    Need I go on????

The only disagreement we might have is to agree that Flacco has done everyting...so far. The NFL is a results today league - fortunately all the Ravens seem to realize it.

Yet there are some on this board who really all they want to do is complain. Bottom line Flacco is a winner. Some on this board are whiners. lol. I would love to see what they would write if the Ravens were still playing 400 ball.

Actually, one of the more amusing things is that when someone has a positive outlook or tries to defend a player, that someone is a "homer", "drinking purple Kool-Aid", etc. by the complainers.

However, when someone challenges something the complainers, now out come the cries of censorship, not allowing all opinions, etc.

The other amusing spectacle among the whiners is their double standard logic...to whit:

Flacco outplays Brady twice now: and the whiners are dismissive saying that Brady has to play the Ravens D while Flacco has the easier job playing the Patriots D.

Romo has better statistics than Flacco, but his team loses the game. Flacco is dumped on and the result of the game (Ravens victory) is passed off as due to luck.

Uhm...you're not very bright, are you? I've been in Joe's corner from before he was drafted.

Joe may have had an off game Sunday but really? The Steelers get the ball on their 16 yard line with 6 minutes to go. On 3rd and 11 Nghata goes offside as a pass was overthrown. Would have been 4th Ravens get ball back and probably at mid field. Does anyone see what I'm getting at. Forget the rest of the game. The defense let the Ravens down. If you can't hold a team down in their own territory you deserve to loose. This was a team loss and 20 points against a Steeler offense w/o Ben should have won easily. By the way speaking of offense, Rice doesn't get a touch in the 4th quarter with a 10 point lead. Anyone see what the problem is yet?

Sorry, you deserve an apology and I must have read another persons post and thought you wrote it. I do agree with this though.....Amazing what Joe can do when he actually HAS an O-line and a pocket, the WRs hold onto the ball (for the most part), and the scheme is varied and effective. I still maintain that NO other QB in the NFL could even accomplish what Joe has done with the crap hand he's dealt most of the time.

We saw this in the Steelers game as Batch had plenty of time to throw the ball.

Apology accepted. I've been saying the same thing throughout -- that when you factor in the crap O-line, the even crappier OC, and the inconsistent WRs, Joe is CLEARLY among the TOP QBs in the league, regardless of what any meaningless "QB RATING" stats seem to indicate. Look at the results with Rogers and even Brees when their O-lines don't even give them 3 seconds, or their WRs are constantly dropping passes. Look what Atlanta did to bolster up the offense AROUND Ryan. What have the Ravens done? Brought in Smith, who seems to have regressed this year; Boldin who is over the damn hill; and Pitta, who, while not bad, is not Gonzales or Gates or Whitten or even Miller. The expectations on Joe are ridiculous, and I believe they're part of an orchestrated attempt to try to keep his asking price down -- something that the Ravens are not immune to doing (i.e. Lowballing, "It's not personal, it's only business", etc.) They screwed the pooch when they re-signed Cameron, and the chickens are now coming home to roost. But rather than deal with it honestly, they're scapegoating Joe. And I'll have no part of it. So you definitely have no beef with me.

There's plenty of blame to go around today, including Flacco. The game plan was poor, receivers continue to drop balls, the offensive line continues to have no clue with speed rushers, and as in almost all of the losses since he arrived, Ray Rice had under 15 carries. And Joe, please....please, Joe....HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL WHEN YOU'RE HIT! It's a scene that's getting very, very old. Other than that, it wasn't a bad day.

Lets says Batch can't move the Steelers on their last possession.

Ravens get in FG range and win.

Most fans the media would have been praising the 10/2 Ravens.

The flaws would still be there, but almost everyone would fail to see them.
