Default BREAKING: Guthrie to the Rockies

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/o...0,149881.story

    For Jason Hammel
    http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/...0/jason-hammel

    and Matt Lindstrom
    http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/...matt-lindstrom

I would argue that Guthrie probably needs a change of scenery. I think he could accomplish much more on a better team. But to me...Hammel & Lindstrom? Does DD realize he wouldn't be getting Cole Hamels?

This just seems like a trade for the sake of making a trade. I see no upside for the Orioles.

I agree. It looks like we traded one average SP for another average SP and yet another reliever. The dysfunction continues in Bird Land

    Worthless.

A meaningless move meant to save money and nothing more, on a team already built on the cheap.

I'm done with them. Absolutely done until the man at the head of this rotting fish is gone.

It wouldn't even matter if Guthrie was privately disgruntled. You can bet the farm that Markakis, Jones, Roberts (when healthy and good), Wieters, and every other half-decent Oriole of the last decade is or has been disgruntled. I'm sure he was disgruntled last year when they scored 18 runs for him TOTAL in his first 9 starts (while he posted a sub-4 ERA and went 1-6). He had every right to be. He's the most consistent starting pitcher they've had for the last decade... by FAR the best starting pitcher from last year... consistently makes every start and tosses 200 innings. It's absolutely comical. When they brought in Millwood, the talking points were "we need a veteran to eat innings and teach the young guys how to pitch". Guthrie is that guy, and has been for several years now. And they dumped him for cannon fodder.

If you care AT ALL about winning, Guthrie for Hammel is a clear downgrade, and Lindstrom is a dime-a-dozen reliever.

They don't put any value on winning (on the field). None at all.

We actually spend more .3 million more after the trade. That just makes this trade even more perplexing. How the hell can anybody call this a fair trade if it isn't a salary dump?

    I have absolutely no idea.

On another note, there aren't any good Rangers forums anywhere.

You apparently are now on the Rangers "bandwagon" so why should any real Orioles fan take any "outrage" from you seriously?

You don't care if the team wins or loses. You've never been a fan in your life. You make terrible prediction after terrible prediction, year after year after year, and never stop. You're an identity thief, a liar, and the most intellectually dishonest person I've ever met.

Why should anyone, Oriole fan or not, take anything you say seriously?

I've got pictures of me dating back to the 70's that prove you lying a tad here.

Horrible deal. I don't see how this improves the team at all, unless there was some behind the scenes disgruntled attitude coming from Guthrie.

Disgruntled or not it makes no sense. If you're goingto trade him, wait until the deadline when you have some numbers to show a potential trade partner for a better deal

On a good team, the attitude coming from a player can sometimes affect the level of play of his teammates - it all depends on how much sway he has.

In this case, Guthrie has a strong presence within the team. I think he would have affected the younger players.
The thing is, I think this deal is older than today - with the O's just waiting for the Rockies and Guthrie to finalize their contract deal, since Guthrie's agent had already come to terms.
Hell, it might have even been the reason that Guthrie and the O's hadn't agreed on a deal outside of arb - no matter how they spin it.

If the O's had came away with some sort of need, I get it it. If this doesn't lead to another trade that addresses a need, I'm dumbfounded.

It's a bigger shame that the Orioles get away with vulgar management...

If only there was a Moderator or an Admin that could fix that...

At this point I'm legitimately done. I've never cared any less about the team than I do right now. They're buried at least 5 years deep before they're even respectable, and they will absolutely never win again with Angelos as the owner. Until he's gone, I have no desire to watch this putrid product.

    Orioles = Pirates.

    'Nuff said.

PS - some exciting things going on about 40 miles to the south. Save the ulcer for something important, ditch the black and orange and watch some exciting NL (non-DH) baseball.
