For what they're worth (usually way off), the pre-season ACC rankings had the Terps finishing in 9th. They are currently in 8th. So technically, yea, they're better than what the pollsters thought way back in Sept/October.

But looking at the Terp's record, by month, we see:

    Nov. 3-6 record
Dec. 6-0 record, with good win over Notre Lame
Jan. 4-8, with the start of ACC play
Feb. 3-8, with the biggest margins of losses coming this month

So, I don't think the Terps are getting better when it counts the most - ie, per-selection time. Loosing to the last place team in the ACC a few weeks before selection, is not a positive thing. But hey, there's still some basketball yet to be played....so, maybe they will get better? But getting better is relative to who's setting the expectations and from when are those expectations measured. From where I sit, and in the month of February (perhaps the most important month in the college basketball season), the Terps are not getting better. In terms of wins/losses, the month of February is shaping up to be their worst month.
Please edit your math. A bit heavy in the loss column. I get your point but you get called out for piling on.

By the way, once he get's his act together, Stoglin could be Walt 2.0

Terps won't even make NIT. They have a long long way to go.

This team simply lacks talent....which is an indictment of Gary Williams......and the real reason Gary retired. They have exactly one scorer on this team out of 8 scholarships and thats Stoglin. Turg has done a wonderful job of coaching with inferior talent....Gary should be ashamed of himself for the recruiting job he's done the last decade.

Gary has had strong recruiting classes in 2002, 2003 and 2008. Couple of recent grads are now in the NBA.

But the bottom line is, from this article - GW wanted a certain type of athlete. He did't cow-tow to all the fans (many of whom have no affiliation with the University) who wanted Gary to go after the one and done recruit, and to cozy up to the AAU handlers. No, that wasn't Gary's style. So, be careful what you wish for....lest the NCAA come knocking.

Your wrong......as proof, watch the quality of recruits go up drastically under Turg and all without even a glance from the NCAA....facts are after the Championship Gary did not want to recruit and the results are there for all to see.....and don't get me wrong......love Gary and all he's done for the University, he just went into cruise control after winning it all.

I'm wrong about what? That GW's classes of 2002, 2003 and 2008 were not strong? Ummmm, hate to disagree with you on that one. Please note, I didn't say GW has been doing a great job recruiting. You said he hasn't done anything "in over a decade". That's what I take issue with.

I'm wrong about GW not wanting/willing to go after the 1-and-done players, or to get into bed with sleezy AAU handlers? Ummmm, not wrong about that, either. He wasn't. I never viewed it as laziness, it was just a philosophical approach in the type of player he wanted. There's quite a few coaches in the BiG that fall into the same mold.

As far as comparing GW to Turg - well, we'll have to see? I tend to take a longterm view of things, so when Turg pulls in a strong class, or two, that really doesn't make it for me. We'll see if he can do it year, after year....and then, we'll see if he's half the motivator and floor general that Gary was? We'll have to see what Turg can do when he finally gets the players he wants? You can have all the talent you want, but if you can't get everyone to buy into your vision, with everyone pulling in the same direction....you may get into the NCAA, but it will be short lived. We'll see?

I don't think MD stinks....not very good may be a better description or lack of talent....or weak

    However,

Two years in a row with terrible free throw shooting.
    Just terrible.
