Default Turgeon continues to show firing Gary was right

Lands 4 star PF Charles Mitchell out of Marietta GA. Recruiting class now looks like this
    Charles Mitchell PF 4 Stars
    Shaquille Cleare C 4 Stars
    Jake Layman SF 3 Stars
    Seth Allen SG 3 Stars
Damonte Dodd C (No ranking yet)

That's a top 15 recruiting class easily, maybe top 10

    1) Gary wasn't fired, or even pushed out. Everyone knows that. Either way, Turge was a GREAT hire and has the program headed in the right direction.

    2) This class is very good, but not a top 10 class. I think I've seen it ranked as high as #17 nationally.

I think the class was ranked #17 nationally before the Charles Mitchell signing. Should be ranked higher now. Hopefully these big men don't play like Pankey, because he is horrible.

Fire Gary? come on, yes turgeon is recruiting very well, and I love what he's doing so far, but I don't know if you recall the class gary had coming in the year he won it all, it had more than 2 4 star recruits, and how did that work out, yeah they got hot and won the acc in 2004, but overall a disappointment, by no means should gary ever been fired, and you dolts that suggest that should just go route for Kentucky, or wherever calimari ends up next.

Say what you want Gary was pushed out and in my mind it was 5 years too late. Class was ranked 17th before Mitchell and Dodd. I see NC State has a top 5 class, that's a shocker.

so you push out a coach who went to 2 final fours and has a national championship, I guess you would rather have calimari, a top ranked recruiting class and no national championship.

You're living in the past. Gary took a program from the depths to the mountain top. Then immediately took it right back into mediocrity. I don't think he ever adequately replaced Hahn,Patsos and Dickerson. Frese came right into a horrible situation and got top 10 recruiting classes one after another. Now Turgeon will do the same. You give Gary equal talent I'll take him over any coach in the country on game day. Sadly Gary stopped getting quality talent that fit his system right after he won the title. Turgeon admitted last night he thought they wouldn't win a league game. Shows you how barren this program has been the last 5 or 6 years.

I agree in terms of Gary was a top level coach in the NCAA and that he didn't like recruiting at all. I believe that once Jordan Williams left school to be a janitor somewhere, Gary thought MD would fire him because his team could not compete without Williams. I do believe that if Williams was back at MD and P'shon never got hurt MD would be a top 25 team this year.

Turgeon can coach. He will learn that Duke and UNC get all the calls so he can stop getting T'd up when playing them.

Top 25 with Pe'Shon and Gary? Hahahaha. You're killing me. Look for Pankey to transfer and next year's team to be in the top 25 with these additions as well as improvements from Stoglin,Pe'Shon,Len and Faust. This year's team with a healthy Pe'Shon wouldn't be top 25 with John Wooden.

I believe he meant jordan williams, Gary had faust coming here and shaq cleare was coming here to, I believe him hiring bino was a good thing, and it had his recruiting looking up, but you just can't run a guy out of town that brought you the only national title in that sport no matter what you think of the job he's doing.

I disagree with you that Williams was pushed out. He is still quite visible around the program, and anyone who knows Gary Williams has to realize if he were "fired" he would be nowhere near the program, or the people who fired him. I don't think they would have named the court after him either. As for Turgeon, I agree it was a great hire. I think he will have Maryland back as an ACC contender with Duke and Carolina quite quickly. It makes the AD department 1 for 2 because the football coach was a terrible hire that belongs nowhere near a division 1 power conference football program.

Nobody knows for sure. It's an opinion. In my opinion, GW was offered a nice package to step down, while still helping the program in an indirect way. Does that mean he was "pushed"? In my opinion, it does. He wasn't fired, per se. But, I'm sure GW was quite aware that Anderson wanted a new guy, a new era. Anderson is not dumb, and he knows many alumni are still very loyal to Gary....so, firing him outright would have resulted in another PR fiasco. Anderson did not want another repeat of Ralph Friedgen PR beat down. So Anderson handed Gary a sweet deal.....but Gary knew his days were numbered, and so he took the package and moved on with his life. I see him almost every night doing color on the BTN. I enjoy listening to his insight.

with J Williams sure we'd be top 25. But what does it say about a program when a guy who doesn't get drafted leaves and the remaining talent is so bad it's picked to finish last? And the incoming coach admits he's surprised they won a single league game?

I wish Gary had never come to Maryland. He didn't accomplish a single ****ing thing while he was here, and he deserves all the hate that the true MD fans throw at him. I'm with you Antimoon. Gary can suck it. Turge is definitely the best coach in the entire universe, and he's so far ahead of Gary that they aren't even comparable.

To me it means the program had great coaching that knows how to maximize its talent.
