Thumbs up Fans should not hate Mussina

It is understandable that Orioles fans hated seeing Mike Mussina in a Yankee uniform.
It would be the same as seeing John Unitas in a Redskins uniform (as if the Chargers wasn't bad enough).

I blame Peter Angelos. When Mussina became a free agent for the first time he gave the Orioles a home team discount and signed for far under what he would have gotten elsewhere. The players union gave him a hard time for doing it. Tom Glavin was vocal about it saying that Mussina hurt the other players by signing for below market level. It was done with a promise that after this 3 year contract the Orioles would give him a better deal when he was eligible for free agency again.

When he was eligible they offered him less because Angelos said he couldn't see giving a 3 to 4 year deal to a pitcher Mussina's age. The Yankees called him the day he became a free agent. In fact, Joe Torre personally call Mussina and the Yankees made an offer far in excess of what the Orioles offered.

How could you blame Mussina for not taking that deal? How many posters on this site would have walked away from an extra 10 to 20 million ?

He is still the Oriole pitcher with the 3 most victories behind Palmer & McNally.

He belongs in the O's Hall of fame . Another player who belongs ahead of Dauer is Gus Triandos.

The people who still hate Mussina are the same people that still hate their high school ex-girlfriends.

Gus Triandos beat Rich Dauer into the Orioles Hall of Fame by 21 years. He was the 5th inductee, behind both Robinsons, McNally & Powell.

I wasn't sure if he should be in the O's HOF, but you just reminded me of this strong argument for his induction. 3rd all time in wins. yep, that deserves to be recognized.

Here's something ironic: He had a better ERA and winning percentage with the Orioles than with the Yankees.

he is arguably the second best pitcher in club history...he's the only pitcher whom won more than half the games he appeared in-- 147 out of 288....everyone of those 288 were starts.....it should be apparent by now that the issues with this team are long running and can be placed at the feet of one person....

moose was all signed sealed and delivered until the angelo$er stepped in and reneged on the agreement between moose and frank wren....it cost wren his job....and of course wren has been very successful since he was freed....

angelo$er argued with an economics major who understood the time value of money...angelo$er wanted an interest free loan....he wasn't going to get it...

moose belongs in the O's hall of fame based on his accomplishments.....he'll be the last drafted and developed player from this franchise to enter the MLB hall of fame....

I never blamed Mussina for taking the Yankee deal. I hated the fact that he played for the Yankees and not the O's. It wasn't his fault it was Angelos's fault. I always hoped he'd come back one day but it didn't happen. I'm hoping he ends up in both the Oriole HOF and in Cooperstown too.

Totally on King Pete.....he never had any intention of signing Mussina...lowballed him the whole way and forced him out. If King Pete had offered market value Mussina would have finished his career with O's. Another in a long long long line of blunders by the idiot owner of the Orioles.

The Orioles needed Mussina much more than he needed them.
You get what you pay for, and the Orioles pay for last place talent.

Congrats, Moose. You deserved better than angeloser

I was upset when he left. But looking back, can you blame him for leaving the Titantic as it started to sink?

well...not everyone. the pom-pom brigade agrees with the Owner. the last 14+ years has been a run of bad luck.or, the breaks just didn't go "our way". how about this one, "[enter player's name here] had connections to [enter city's name here] and that's the only reason he didn't sign with baltimore". another favorite (and this one gets used so often it's hard to count) "that player isn't worth that amount of money"

Sorry but bad comparison. The Colts were never rivals of the Skins. If it was Johnny U days it would be like Johnny U going to Miami or NE.

Moose was a great pitcher but I don't feel he should be in the O's Hall. Why? Moose retired a Yankee and continues to support the Yankees. Let him go into the Yankees Hall not the O's Hall.

When players retire they tend to go back to the team that the player feels the most attached to. Ummm, where's Moose right now?

Next to Jim Palmer the best pitcher the O's have ever had...He deserves to be in.
