I love how they point to the Blue Ribbon committee that suggested the tax increase

I think someone just shoved a crowbar up my *****.
Better idea, lower it to 5% but have it cover EVERYTHING. NO SPECIAL BREAKS for haircuts etc.

Your link's not working for me, but I would venture to guess the committee has heavy representation from those with the most vested interests in road projects-- such as unions, construction companies, highway planners, etc.

From the article -- Gov. Martin O'Malley says he still hopes to convince the legislature to raise money for highway and transit projects — possibly by adding another penny to Maryland's six-percent sales tax and dedicating the extra revenue to transportation.

What's the track record for not touching dedicated revenue for other purposes?

We should know by now he will throw any tax increase he can against the wall with hopes that it will stick. This time he may have a sticker.

Remember when he lambasted Ehrlich for the flush tax, lol?

I fixed it. Well they had environmental people and elected officials. For the business perspective they had Donald Fry and Don Bowman.
Fry is a known O'Malleyite. And Bowman owns a large trucking firm but also has his hand in lots of development in the Hagerstown and i81-i70 area. He has reasons to keep the big boys on his side. Plus he can buy fuel in pa or WV just as easy.

But, doesn't 95% of all road construction projects come from the Federal Government? Why do we need an increase? "For the children" ?

Last time I checked anal sex (when done by gay or straight people) doesn't cost me any money and abortion (as abhorant as it may sound) saves millions if not billions of dollars. But people like you would rather complain about all the people on welfare (since they can't take care of all of the kids they have) and wait until these kids grow up to be criminals and kill them later in the gas chamber, because that's OK but ending the pregnancy is "against god"... give me a break!

BTW for the record I hate O'Malley and his tax/spend policies, but it's fundies like you that take the spotlight off the real issues!

The Blue Ribbon Comm. is appointed by O'Malley. I have NEVER SEEN A TAX THAT TAX THAT SPEND DEMOCRATS HAVE TURNED DOWN!! O'Malley will do anything, on the table for all to see or as in most instances under the table in darkened back rooms, to screw the working person in Maryland. He raided the Chesapeak Bay Fund, the Transportation Fund and even took Millions from the Employee Prescription to continue his lavious spending on "New Programs" during is disasterious reign. Now, he doubles the Bay Fund Fee, tries to raise the Gas Tax (which Busch and Miller have stated can be done during a "Special Session when no one is watching), ignores his promise to "restore" the funds stolen from employees, and no wants to raise the Sales Tax. After all, Marylands 6% is only the 9th highest in the Nation, I guess he wants Maryland to be Number 1 in Sales Tax. Maryland has got to stop their Love Affair with Tax & Spend Democrats or there will be no one remaining in Maryland to pay taxes because they can no longer afford to own homes or work in Maryland.

    O'Liar is at it again:
A second option, he said, would be to raise the general sales tax — which he pointedly called the "ninth-lowest sales tax in the country" — to seven percent and earmark the additional revenue to highway and transit projects. The governor said he hoped legislators would consider the options after they have completed work on the state budget and other tax issues.
I ran the numbers the last time he suggested raising the tax to 7%. Right now we're middle of the pack in terms of the state tax.

If we went to 7%, we would have the 2nd highest state sales tax in the nation, with CA being the highest at 7.25%.

How can O'Malley lie so blatantly? In my view, he has lied and distorted the truth so many times, he can never be trusted.

The worst thing of all is that The Sun didn't call him out on the fabrication.

Let me get the reply of the O'pologists ready for them: "It's only 2 cents."

How about one of the O'Pologists explaining to me how raising the sales tax by 40% during his term -- one of the most regressive taxes of all -- is helping MDs working families?

Why are liberals so pro regressive taxes? They claim they care about the poor/working man, but at every chance they get they try to pass more regressive taxes. Split personalities? Or are they just filthy liars?

    From the article:

"He acknowledged that his original transportation tax plan won't fly, saying "the word gas combined with tax" is anathema to many people. But he said he also believes many Marylanders realize the state needs to do more to take care of its road and transit needs. "There's a growing public understanding that this is a real problem," he said.
Hey Marty, we also realize that you and your cronies in Annapolis are a bunch devious liars that have overpsent our money like drunken sailors on your pet projects and raided the Transportation Trust Fund AND the Chesapeake Bay fund to help offset your blatant overspending which is exactly why you now need to raise taxes on anything and everything under the sun. Who voted for your tax-and-spend sorry arses in the first place? Oh, that's right, the freeloaders, never mind.

ATTENTION ALL TAX-PAYING MARYLANDERS! YOU BETTER WAKE UP!
