You will have to ask Jabril Peppers that was what he said as to why he transferred... He didnt feel Bosco kids (non football kids and some staff) treated him right.. again according to "reports".. not me..
http://powermediallc.org/2012/02/09/...rom-don-bosco/
“I’m transferring,” Peppers said. “I wasn’t really happy there. I just wanted to start fresh somewhere I felt comfortable. Paramus Catholic has a great academic program and all my friends I grew up with are there. It just seems like the right place for me.”
Peppers said he had been uncomfortable at Don Bosco since his freshman year but that it had nothing to do with football
“Everyone knows I’m good at football,” Peppers said. “That’s been acknowledged. I wanted to be treated like a regular person. It seems like at the end of the day I’m still treated like a child in high school. (At Paramus Catholic) everyone just fits in there and it’s more diverse. It was basically a no-brainer for me.”
Hopefully, Peppers finds his place at Paramus Catholic. He has had a difficult childhood thus far (father in jail, brother murdered a few years back) and needs to be surrounded by high character individuals. If not, his current path to a college scholarship and potentially a NFL career (certainly projects that way if he continues to develop) could be derailed. Let’s hope he stays grounded and doesn’t let his ego get in the way of his development. I’m sure this story will not end here…just hope it ends well for Peppers!
They have the transfer on their website...

Yeah I just picked them because they are independents in PA (Inter-AC) and offer scholarships.. They could build the teams to compete if they wanted Ie..lacrosse).. The football players may come to them to be in this type league especially with the philly catholic schools in such financial trouble.... right now they dont get many of them because they dont play for state championships etc.. .. pure speculation though.. It would be one heck of a conference for lacrosse and baseball as well... again this is just for fun and conversation...
I am agreeing with you, although this would be an amazing league, I just don't see that happening. There would be a whole lot of opposition in the Gilman community. Gilman prides itself on being well rounded in life as well as sports. And this would only benefit sports(it wouldn't help lacrosse btw). Like you said, there will be plenty in te Gilman community that will not like being associated with certain programs.
Honestly, the main benefits of adding Haverford would be non-football related. Their most prominent alums are Ed and Steve Sabol, the owners of NFL Films, along with NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock. They have enough media ties to get some major broadcast partners interested in a high-caliber league that would include Haverford.
The other benefit would be for fans, Haverford has a great campus and a nice little stadium and is in a great area outside of Philly, called the Main Line I think. It is the Philly equivalent of Roland Park. There are some great restaurants in that area too.
However, Haverford is very old guard Philly. The few kids on scholarship that they bus in from Philly proper represent the only diversity in the school. I saw McD play them in 2009 and 2010. McD beat them badly both years and Haverford dropped McD from the schedule. I believe they are playing an MIAA B school this year (St. Paul's or BL). Haverford has been very resistant in scheduling any school that aren't similar to them in enrollment and age and academic reputation.
Haverford has the monetary power to be a football power if they really want to. I think their endowment is right around McD's ($75-100 million). This would also be a great conference for squash, tennis, and the rest of the "country club" sports as well.
Like GA said, there would be a lot of opposition at McD too. There would be a lot of alums all for it, but just as many against it, and I'm not sure Charlie Britton would have this, McD and Gilman are quite embedded in the MIAA. What might work better would be to invite some of these schools into the MIAA to strengthen the league. I think a 16 team, 2 division MIAA A could work. What it really boils down to is McD and Gilman won't go anywhere by themselves, it's a package deal, you get McD and you get Gilman, or you get neither. Same deal with CHC and Loyola.
Yeah I know it just a pipe dream just fun to talk about.. anyway I doubt there isn't any school public or private that doesn't pride itself or have the mission of students being well rounded in life as well as sports.. regardless of what popular perceptions may be...
Everything you said is spot-on. The only thing I would add is that Haverford (like the rest of the IAC, including Chestnut Hill Academy, Malvern Prep, Germantown Academy, Espiscopal and Penn Charter) allows post-grads/5th year seniors to play sports, which limits the competition they can play. Their lax team was also the #1 team in the country last year and I think is currently ranked #1 again.
If anyone is interested, a great resourse for Philly-area football is www.tedsilary.com
Haverford and Malvern wouldn't need to build teams to compete in lax. They would both be among the top teams in your proposed league.
Also, IMHOTEP is a charter school that plays in the Class AA Philadelphia City League so they don't fit your criteria.
In addition to the IAC schools, some other regional teams that would fit your profile would be:
-Poly Prep (NY)
-Camden Catholic (NJ) (building a power in S. Jersey with the former HC of St. Joe's Prep)
-Hun School (NJ)
-Blair Academy (NJ)
-Georgetown Prep (MD) (unlikely considering that they just pulled out of the MIAA)
I agree they should play at least 1 marquee game vs an out of state program. They play 3 very tough OOC opponents in the Bmore/DC area (more difficult than some teams out of state comp) this season. However, I can't deny the fact that I would like to see them play some tough out of state competition. I am not talking about the Malvern, Haverford, Valley Forge or Fork Union's out there. There are already enough MIAA schools traveling to play those teams when they could play better in state comp. I have been told they are lining up a game or two next season vs out of state. Think traditional Catholic power either from NJ, Western PA or Ohio. Waaaay back in the day (Carlozo and Miceli era) CHC opened their schedule with Good Counsel for 5 or 6 years in the 70's and Cardinal O'Hara, West Catholic, and Northern Virginia powers in the early 80's when the Cardinals won 7 MSA A Championships n a 9 year span. I think it's time to renew some of those old rivalries or start some new ones. The super conference is another story. That's not going to happen. However, there is no reason CHC can't step up and play an out of state traditional Catholic power early in the season. They did it every year from the early 70's - mid 80's. There, I said it, are you happy? I am pretty sure it's gonna happen.
BTW, There is no doubt SPP has been a traditional NJ power in the past, but they lost to Don Bosco 37-0 when they were ranked higer thanthe Ironmen in your "pre season poll".
I'd love to see the Cards play La Salle College High School from Philly next year. The programs and schools are very similar. If you're interested, my brother-in-law is the dean of students and an assistant on the football team there and I can see if they have any interest.
Yes actually, I am happy. I know that was very hard for you to do.
Everyone thought Bosco was down because they didn't return a lot of starters. But as we saw up close and personal when they played Gilman, they were te real deal and still one of the best of not the best team in the country. SPP was definitely ranked higher not in my Poll but MANY POLLS. They were lead by their 5 star RB Savon Huggins.
I would like to see CHC play a team like Bishop McDevitt out of Harrisburg or Central Catholic out of Pittsburgh. Those are the type of teams they should be looking to play. And those teams need to look to play OOS games as well, they usually don't as well.
They won the Pennslyvania AAAA State Championship in 2009, were in the finals in 2010, and lost in the semis last year. They've won the Philly Catholic League 4 years in a row are the best team in Philly hands down IMO.

They have a great passing game, play solid D, and rely on a lot of lax players at the skill positions, much like CHC. They probably have less talent than Gilman and CHC, but better coaching.
Just looking at potential (money/endowment, facilities, scholarships), and not the current state of their programs, I'll add a few more schools from a little further south.
Landon (MD)- great place to watch a game, and lots of money
Episcopal (VA)- lots of money too
Woodberry Forest (VA)- best athletic facilities I've every seen, top 5 biggest endowment in the country, biggest per-student endowment in the country ($75,000+ per student at least), full boarding program
Episcopal and Woodberry are as much of rivals as McD-Gilman/Loyola-CHC. They are currently dominating the VA prep school league, which isn't that good. They could step up into a better league and be competitive.
I just confirmed that City's schedule is the exact same as last year's with the home fields reversed. The game with Eastern Tech is on again to start the season at Essex.
On another note, I walked over to the renovation area and was in awe. City's new stadium is unreal. The new turf and goal posts are state of the art. With the renovation of the track, both bleachers and the addition of the new lights City will have a stadium that's second to none in this area.
Now if only we can start to attract the type of athletes that we used to get we'll be ok. I'll tell you what though, this field won't hurt. This is going to put Friday night lights in the city on a whole new level.
