A common element of O's teams in the last ~20 years.

I was under the impression that the last 125 games told us alot. Was that just preseason and only the remaining games count?

O's on pace for 88 wins. That's excellent, not only considering where they've been for the past 29 years but considering the roster.

As long as they win 82 games this season has been an O's success.

    It's an illusion.

It's not the solution, you thought it would be...

No, it's true. I did the math. They may be the worst team to ever have a winning record. They may not have another winning record for another 15 years. Half this current roster may not be on next year's team.

But they are on pace for 88 wins. Even shutting down Arrieta and Matusz to avoid them being the worst pitching tandem in AL history and to baby their fragile little arms and egos.

    No argument here.

SF had a -8 run differential last year and was 10 games over.
Detroit in 2009 was -9 and was 9 games over.
Houston was -31 in 2008 and 11 games over.
Seattle was -27 in 2007 and was 13 games over.
That same year, Arizona was -27 and won the division at 18 games over.
Boston was -5 in 2006, and 10 games over.
SD won the west in 2005 with a -42 and 2 games over .500.

    ...I'm seeing a pattern here.
It matters what you do in your wins more than it matters what you do in your losses.
Buck is willing to concede games during the season in order to save players, and has his focus on 2 out of every 3. It's why they are winning.

I don't think this team is yet truly built for long term success, but they do have a lot of building blocks.

Right now, they have a group of AJ, Matt, Machado, Flaherty, Nick, Chen, Gonzalez, Tillman, Britton, JJ, Strop, Davis, and Patton who have shown they have a lot to provide for a while.

Hammel, Hardy, and the other relievers provide solid guys at positions still in the primes of their careers.

Guys like McLouth, Ford, and Q are alright stop-gap solutions until they have time to look for something better this offseason.

They have potential contributors in the minors, including Hoes, Schoop, Bundy, Gausman, Delmonico, and Mahoney.

    They also have new philosophies.

I expect they will regress next year, as the players try to figure out how to play consistent baseball - but as the players change out a little, and maybe even some management, we'll see this team steadily improve over the next few years.

You read word by word, right?
That's the only thing that makes sense with your consistent quotes out of context.

I mean, I realize you can never be wrong...but at least be right while addressing the post.

    Ok, let's be clear.

Assuming the O's can finish this year right where they are now (Ha, ha, ha !) do you have any reason whatsoever that they will continue that next year and beyond ?

With perfect hindsight, you finally see the light. When foresight was needed in the pre-season, you completely blew it with your grossly unimaginative prediction of 61 wins. Here's a free hint for next year - 84-78.

Updates only remind people of what a crappy franchise the orioles have been.

Because I'm very humble - don't you know? However since you asked, did you know that I brilliantly predicted back in March that the O's would win 95 games and make the playoffs in 2012?

In case you're wondering, they'll go 84-78 in 2013 and miss the playoffs.

Why is this thread on page 1 when they are losing but when they are winning, it finds itself on page 3? Inquiring minds want to know. I don't post too much anymore but am loving the season they are giving us. Go O's
