He said that he had a gun and then shaped up as if he was firing at the police.
The guy had a death wish.

He was probably manic. Should being bipolar be a capital offense? Kind of reminds me of those trigger happy air marshals who gunned down a bipolar man who was running OFF an airplane with his wife screaming that he's bipolar and that he's not a terrorist. They, still gunned him down, and faced no consequences. But since this kid is, of diversity, the results could be different.

    What a ridiculous question.

If the cops are told that a suspect has a gun and the suspect proceeds to mimic shooting at the police, what would you have those police do?

You have an unhealthy obsession with taking debates to the extreme.

I believe the cops were told or thought Amadou Diallo was armed, and he was shot 50+ times.. Maybe if they stopped firing 90 shots they would have heard no gunshots at him? And I don't know if they still require vision testing to be a cop, they used to, but you can SEE a gun. It looks different than making a gun with your fingers.

The number of shots fired are a concern.
The kid wanted to get shot, that much is pretty certain. Like I said, it sounds like he had a death wish.

In relation to your 'point' about what it looked like he was doing and what he was actually doing, you have no point.
Watch the video, keeping in mind that the police believed he had a gun (because he claimed to have had one). It's not the middle of the day...

And now you're saying that they should have waited for him to shoot before they fired...yeah, ok.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. If you say you have a gun, and then draw down like you are going to shoot at a cop, expect to get shot.

that's how it works. fleeing the police and saying your armed removes a lot of the guess work and eliminates "is he a threat?" as a question. there is a reason the police instruct you to raise your hands and this guy did not respond in a manner that said "I am no threat"....instead he msde s motion that indicated he was threatening to shoot an officer....90 shots-- ok maybe a little overkill....

The kid was obviously in a bad place. We’ll probably never know why he did what he did. Unless there is more than is being reported, I find it difficult to second-guess the officers that were confronted with this situation.
