if you really believe that obama is the only president that would have approved that mission then I have a bridge to sell you .......

if funny that after 4 years that is the only accomplishment obama has to run on ........

nothing else in the past 4 years and he isn't talking about his vision for the next 4 years either ........

looks like he is going to build his entire campaign around mitts tax returns ......

Wow...you guys ever think that maybe left vs right and/or democrat vs republican are false dichotomies?

They are absolutely false dichotomies. But neither party wants you to believe that such a thing can exist. The more people recognize that, the more chance there is that they will reject both parties that are virtually the same, and throw their support to someone else. The two parties have worked very hard to build up and us vs. them mentality, and have done a very good job. It does not seem to matter that republicans constantly criticize democrats for spending too much, yet have done exactly the same when in office. It didn't matter that democrats blamed the Bush tax cuts for breaking the budget and then extended them despite promising to let them expire. What matters is that the perceptions both parties have put in place continue. That is why both parties continue to talk bipartisan cooperation, yet only foster the atmosphere of contempt towards the opposite party. Partisan hatred and divide helps both parties to keep their power and prevent someone else from entering the picture.

I don't think they are false. Both parties have very different philosophies. Scott Walker clearly has a different world view than Martin O'Malley. Jim DeMint clearly differs in his views from Harry Reid.

The thing is, at the Presidential level, there's a limit to how partisan one can be. Presidents have to get things done for the government to function. They can't afford to stick to their guns and not be willing to compromise when the fate of the country is in their hands. I'm sure that Bush, in his heart believes in conservative principles and Obama in his heart believes in liberal principles. However, the nature of the Presidency is why there's a lot of overlap in their policies...

You are confusing personal philosophies with party philosophies, and even then, politicians are going to give lip service to whatever will give them the most votes.

Fact - I would have won that big mega millions jackpot if I had picked my own numbers instead of letting the machine do it.

It's just as true as the OP's premise.

Only if you had picked the right numbers.

If we had done as Romney wished, bin Laden would still be sitting and gloating, fat and happy in Pakistan.

It's a conclusion made evident by his own statements.

Of course. The main objectives of political parties is to organize voters, raise money, and most importantly, WIN ELECTIONS. Advancing one philosophy or another is a secondary objective.

In our system of politics, if politicians want to be successful on the national level they have to be flexible about their philosophies and they have to join a political party. The system is not built for independents or third parties.

If John McCain had won unemployment would be at 4.5%, gas prices at $1.83 and the Afghan War would have been won and all the troops sent home.

Gas prices haven't been below two dollars since the early 2000's. Bush, with all of his anti-regulation/pro-oil policies, couldn't keep gas prices from rising to above $4.

If McCain won, we'd still have the same problems with the banks, mortgages, credit, unemployement etc. I don't see what he would've done differently. I think he still would've done some type of stimulus bill and more republicans would've voted for it. People forget that republican governors were one of the biggest lobbyists for the 2009 stimulus.

On defense, McCain actually wants to send troops to more places than Obama has...

And we would have still been losing 750,000 jobs a month.

If Joh McCain had one maybe Sarah Palin would have learned that Africa is a continent and not a country.
