I know I'm swimming upstream, but I don't think Gregg is that bad. I know so far this year he looks like a disaster, but his career stats are fair (550 Ks, 266 Ws, 4.12 ERA) and I think it puts batters off their game to look at a hard throwing guy who is on the edge of being out of control. As to the Os having pitchers like that when they're going bad, during their glory years in the '70s there was Don Stanhouse. Earl Weaver couldn't stand to watch the guy pitch so he'd go back in the tunnel and smoke cigarettes, but he still would put him in because he did a certain job. Like Stanhouse, Gregg refuses to throw a strike until he absolutely has to. That can be effective, but it is a dangerous way to work. Sometimes you get the final out with the go-ahead runs walked on base, sometimes you don't.

More than likely he'll find a groove again at some point. Mike Gonzalez did last season and who on earth would have predicted that.

That said, it's hard to root for him right now

I understand relievers are up and down and Gregg is getting paid a lot of money so he’s going to get a few more opportunities but his comments after the Jays games bothered me. He basically said they (the Jays) hit good pitches and he was not comfortable in his new role. Just admit you stunk your team was winning 2-1 when you came in and losing 8-2 when the inning ended. How about some self accountability?
