Default Only geniuses can manage teams

One of my recurring themes is that baseball managers have the imagination of a mindless robot. Bobby Valentine, the resident genius in Boston, was criticizing Youkilis and pointed out that it's always a good thing when the on-base percentage is higher than the batting average. That ranks up there with BS admiring the determination in the eyes of Brian Matusz.

I repeat what I truly believe - at least half the posters in this talk forum could manage baseball teams at least as well and in some cases far better than the robots.

    priceless.

I'm going to stick with my percentages... 99.99999999999999999999999% of messageboard posters have no idea whatsoever as to what is exactly involved in being a MLB ....GM, Manager, Player, Coach.... or rain-delay Tarp boy tech.

anyway...let's get back to the comedy shall we?....

Nick, your humility is respected as regards your own lack of qualifications to manage a baseball team. At your young age, you're probably not yet qualified for much of anything yet but experience is the best teacher so things will get better for you.

The current crop of managers has set the bar so low that I truly believe there's more baseball sense coming from many posters than clowns like BV and BS. Let's face it - BV's comment that an on-base percentage should be higher than a batting average is a classic.

Take this one for a spin old fart....

...but I don't think anyone on Sunspot doubts you are still stuck firmly in the "know it all" stage of your lengthy existence.

Young Nick is getting a bit testy. The maturing process will cure that defect.

Regarding John Wooden's quote, that's been used by lots of older high achievers over the years as a sign of humility. I've used it myself.

I take it you consider Bobby Valentine's comment regarding on-base average and batting average to be brilliant thinking from a genius that manages a baseball team. Give it a little more thought and at least acknowledge that baseball managers often say and do incredibly dumb things.

Yes, that's exactly what I never said or implied.

Casey Stengel was an idiot until he managed the yankees. Billy Martin though was a winner where he went.

You're absolutely right about Billy Martin - says something about setting high expectations.

Casey was never an idiot - he was entertaining and baseball could use a lot more Casey Stengals rather than the humorless robots that currently manage teams.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Regressing from a Guru to a Dirty Frank is a major decline but don't ever let anyone suggest you're an idiot because you're not (except when you insult people).

You know, I thought the same thing for years, then I noticed it attached to Wooden
