Default Astonishing -Nontoxic! Olive Oil + C60 fullerene doubles rat lifespan

Administration of Olive oil + C60 buckminsterfullerene to rats doubled lifespan.

The control rats 50% survival was to ~32 months, C60 treated rats 50% survival was to 64 months. (page 6 of the linked study)

Of interest is that the C60+ Olive oil was only administered from months 10-17.

Jeanne Calment was known to eat 2 lbs of chocolate (antioxidant) a week and dump olive oil on everything she ate -- lived to 122.

Probably would have lived to be 140 is she hadn't smoked and ate all that chocolate.

Chocolate is an antioxidant, and her daily consumption of ~4.5oz likely contributed to her longevity.

As far as the impact of smoking -- it was stated she only smoked 2 cigarettes a day.

The evidence relating to antioxidants and longer life/disease prevention is far from conclusive.

    This study is conclusive.

C60 fullerene is a known antioxidant. Amelioration of CCL4 (carbon tetrachloride) acute toxicity in olive oil+C60 rats upon challenge proves the antioxidant effects of C60 fullerene.

I can't find any other studies that get a 66 month lifespan for a male wistar rat (normal is 30-42 months average of 36).

You're sounding like a snake oil salesman.

I thought you were more credible than that.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for it to be true. But things are seldom that simple in life.

Read the study, don't take my word for it.

It was a well designed multi-cohort study with controls.

Buckminsterfullerene? Does that have anything to do with bucky tubes?

    They're related.

Bucky tubes (carbon nanotubes) have carbon atoms arranged in a tessellating octagonal pattern that form a tube-like structure.

Bucky balls ([60]fullerene) are shaped exactly like soccer balls when drawn in ball-and-stick form, with covalent bonds forming the 'seams' of the soccer ball.

I understand enough to land me in trouble here but aren't both these things a type of exotic plastic and what application could such a thing have medically?

    100% carbon

Apparently they act as a potent anti-oxidant, reducing the oxidative stress that contributes to aging.

You know, there is a video interview of Professor Fathi Moussa regarding the C60 Olive Oil used in the study:

Here's the down side. It's next to impossible to get real unadulterated olive oil. Especially here in America. Most of what you buy if there is any olive oil in it at all. It's only about 20% - 40% olive oil. I once had a friend in Greece that owned olive tree orchards and produced olive oil send me a bottle of his olive oil. The oil was green, it had a very strong taste and no one I served it to liked it because of that strong taste. But it was pure olive oil.
