    Default Goodbye Josh Bell...

Orioles designated 3B Josh Bell for assignment.

He was cleared to make room for the newly-claimed Luis Exposito on the Orioles' 40-man roster. Bell was considered the third baseman of the future after coming over from the Dodgers in the George Sherrill deal at the deadline in 2009, but he has a lousy .200/.221/.264 batting line and a stunningly awful 78/6 K/BB over 226 plate appearances in the majors. There isn't much hope left, but it will be interesting to see if someone takes a chance on the 25-year-old.

...and compared to his fielding his hitting was his strong point

Have to say I never really thought Josh Bell would amount to an everyday 3rd basemen for the Orioles.and that was sight unseen.

Dodgers weren't going to give us that much for Sherrill

The guy had a a turrible spring and his first 32 at bats in 2012 at Norfolk have yielded 3 hits. No one else will pick him up with numbers like that.

Unless he turns it around soon, he'll continue with the Tides until one or more of the AA guys (probably Waring) moves up at mid-season. Then they'll just give up and release him.

Lots of good hitting at Bowie right now! Talent like Machado and Townsend. Schoop is lagging but its early.

Something doesn't smell right here - the O's have two backup catchers to Weiters and they'll only get token playing time. Both backups are Latino. It looks like the O's have been hearing my complaints and decided to bring in two tokens. It won't work because I'm on the case. They'll have to do better than that to cover up the bias evident from replacing Hall of Famer Vlad with Nick Johnson.

If you're reading this O's, get a little bail money down to Venezuela and re-sign Vlad right away. I'm confident he'll take $4 million. If the O's had Vlad, they'd be 8 - 2 instead of 6 -4.

Except Nick can play first base and isn't 37. He's also comfortable with the bench.

    Vlad insisted that he start.

Actually, Nick is most comfortable with the disabled list. Anyway, any serious contender would be thrilled to have a 1B and DH with a BA of .000 and an OPS of .158.

I think Nick should be at AAA getting accustomed to playing again. Don't get me wrong.

Do you think that just maybe the reason the O's are signing a catcher is that two of their current catchers have been banned by Major League Baseball for drug use?

Agreed. Josh Bell was never going to be the answer at third.
