Default Woman killed after crash with suspect during police pursuit

    From the Sun:
A 22-year-old woman was killed and her infant daughter injured Monday night after a man eluding city police ran a red light and plowed into her vehicle in West Baltimore, authorities said.

The accident occurred two weeks before Jordasha Rollins was to celebrate her daughter’s first birthday, and, in a twist of fate, she knew the driver of the vehicle that took her life.

But as family and friends hung balloons and flowers Tuesday at the site where the accident occurred, their anger was not directed at the driver but at police. They contend that the officer, who had been in pursuit of the driver for about five blocks, should not have continued the chase.

“Thanks to Baltimore’s finest, my niece is gone,” said Rollins’ aunt, Lee Avery, 38. Of the suspect driver, who grew up in their neighborhood, she said: “We know it was an accident — we know he didn’t mean it.”
This is such a terrible tragedy for this family, but they really should be focusing their anger on the person responsible for the woman's death.

The police are only trying to do their job. If they didn't, there would be complete anarchy, as opposed to the near-anarchy we currently see in many Baltimore neighborhoods.

"Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the suspected driver, identified as Charles Jeffries, had been driving erratically in the 1700 block of Hilton St. and fled from an officer who tried to pull him over. Jeffries allegedly tried to escape on foot after the crash and was caught, and officers found crack cocaine in his possession, authorities said."

A five block chase is nothing and it's the cops job tp apphrend criminals.

I bet the family knows Jeffries as a supplier of goodies and its easier to blame the po po than dsomeone they support and deal with.

He has a two page rap sheet but I don't think that matters here. Did the officer follow protocol? What was the rate of speed by the officer and the suspect? Lots of questions to be answered.

Tragic incident, but, come on, blaming the police instead of the real culprit? Could it be someone smells $$$ to be had?

Here's a thought: pull all LEOs off the street for a week and see what happens.

The fault for the death lies solely with the person who ran the red light. And the anger should be directed to him, not the police.

Similar to the Chevy Chase Circle police sort of chase where the kids who stole the car crashed it and the car cought fire and 3 burned to death. People were blaming the police for it.

If the perpetrator had been unknown to them, of if he had been white, would these family members still blame the police?

Blaming the police makes about as much sense as blaming the manufacturer of the automobile they were riding in for not withstanding the impact.

I would hope that some people on here would think for a minute that a woman is dead. I am saddened by the comments of her relatives but the real tragedy is that a woman is dead.

You are so right. And a child will grow up without her mother.

And she died because some lowlife thought it was a good idea to get high on drugs, drive, and think he could evade the police.

Another life lost, thanks to Baltimore's drug/thug culture.

I find it appalling that her family is not blaming the thug, but blaming the police instead. Some people are very selective in when they want the police and criminal justice system to be involved.

The fact that this family didn't want the police to do their jobs makes me wonder if they want the police to be involved in their neighborhoods at all. Perhaps the police should just pull out altogether and see how that works out.

If the police do their job properly, people will complain. If they don't do their job, people will complain.

I'm sure he's a good boy and the police made him go bad. Gotta love the mentality of my fellow city residents.
