Default City's black, male leaders organize around literacy

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/mar...tory?track=rss

With books in hand, hundreds of prominent black male city leaders and community members will descend on classrooms around the city Monday to read to students, part of an initiative to promote literacy and positive male influences in the lives of city youth.
I'll be surprised if this makes the news.

They don't show stats, but for adults, Detroit has a 50% literacy rate. I hope Baltimore isn't that bad.

I salute you, Ken, for actually walking the walk. We all bich, but you're doing something.

And Sigma, it has made the news. Your link is to Marylands largest news source. It's not a "sexy" story, being that it's positive,(sadly reflecting a negative) but it's there.

Beta, my guess is that we're right there with Detroit, which makes this effort very important.

Pep my father wasn't around much when I was growing up, but I had several male teachers who influenced me greatly in my formative years so I'm just giving back

I should have been more specific. I was referring to tv news reports of the actual events.

Are you the same cop that ran for office? You have no inkling what the nature of the dilemma is. If you did, you would not have composed that declaration.

I wish that the black men that the kids really look up to, like Ravens players, would sign up for this kind of thing.

Screw the Ravens players. Those kids need to see you don't have to be famous to be a positive influence and that men in their neighborhoods care.
