City's black, male leaders organize around literacy

With books in hand, hundreds of prominent black male city leaders and community members will descend on classrooms around the city Monday to read to students, part of an initiative to promote literacy and positive male influences in the lives of city youth.

I'll be surprised if this makes the news.

Pep my father wasn't around much when I was growing up, but I had several male teachers who influenced me greatly in my formative years so I'm just giving back

On one thread it will be said that there's no such thing as "black leaders", now apparently there are.....I want to be up-to-date......

When speaking on American Blacks, it's crucial to analyze on a individual basis. For far too long, it appears that American Blacks are looked at as a "collective". When the media speaks on Black leadership, the context of leadership comes off as if they are speaking on civil right era leadership in my opinion. A leader can be anyone, the neighbor who files paperwork at city hall to report trash pick up violations, a child who sees bullying in school occurring and reports it to the teacher and etc.

When a group of 20 white males discuss business ideas with high school children, it's rarely reported as "White Leaders". I believe the media should take a further look into that especially with scenario's like this that actually occur far far more than it's reported which is fine, a leader does not need media coverage
