........ more runs then they have scored. They are lucky to be 9-7. Not a good trend though.

A win's a win. Plus, we have a winning record on the road. That's HUGE!
TM
it's a trend they will either break, or it will catch up to them.
since certain cheerleaders and truth deniers like to use Bill James' pythagorean theorem to demonstrate the wOes are better than their record indicates...the wOes should winning % should be .478-- or roughly 7.5 wins and 9.5 losses....right now they are worse than their record indicates....
cue clueless trolls in 3, 2, 1.....
Probably ten less runs if it wasn't for the errors D:
Yes, all the people on this board who are actually fans are the clueless trolls. TM is easily in the top half of most intelligent people on here these days... ever since the sun made people pay the interesting discourse has disappeared.
But to rebut your immediate point about the "wOes," who cares what their Pythagorean record is- last time I checked its the real record that counts. Please, though, let us know whenever you find a reason to rip on the Orioles.
The runs they've allowed have come largely in Brian Matusz starts. 21 out of 66 runs surrendered on the year have come in those 3 starts, accounting for 32% of our runs against in just 19% of our games.
Its a small sample size and any statistic one extracts is unlikely to hold up for an entire season. At this point its just about staying healthy and scratching out as many wins as possible, which we have been doing.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNN,. ..
another clueless poster who misses the point of my post....if it will help you I can pull up troll moon's use of said formula to try and convince people the wOes aren't as bad as their record....
here's a good one...http://talk.baltimoresun.com/showthr...ht=pythagorean
don't need to find reasons, they manifest themselves on the field every game...
now run along....
O's are 9-7 for one reason: for once they are stealing games late. Last year: 2-85 when trailing after 8. We've had nice comebacks against Tor,Chi and Ana. Otherwise we'd be 6-10.
You are your record.
Wait I counted. They've been outscored 69-71, yeah outscored but eh. canyouhearmenow says the pythag win makes their record about 7-9 instead of 9-7, at this point in the season that's really not much difference. They're worse than their record indicates but not much worse.
If someone could use this theorem to show that the orioles should have won 90some games in 2008, I don't know what else to say regarding its uselessness.
You're right sonny- the Orioles suck. They're worse this year than ever before. They don't belong in the major leagues and will lose every game for the rest of the season. Every player on their roster is a bust.
Can you people even pretend to entertain adult conversation?
I don't know who "you people? refer to, but you stuck both feet in your mouth by jumping on me without understanding the context of my post...that's on you, not me.....
pssst-- they do suck and have for a decade and a half and will continue to do so unless the organization under goes a serious transformation and commits to winning....
now what adult conversation would you like to have? want to talk about the 25 man roster from top to bottom? the lack of any significant moves over the winter? the fact that after his big public pronouncement about MASN money putting the O's on the same plane as the red sox and yankees payroll has gone down...or do you want to focus on the fantasy this team is going anywhere....pick one and let's have at it....
If you look at end of the season record compared to the end of season Pythagorean record, they're usually pretty damn close. Don't know what Moon did with it back in late June of 2008 (O's actually did have a winning record at the time) but I wouldn't make any judgements on the usefulness of the stat based on that.
