Default Is your computer infected with DNSChanger?

This article will let you know where you can check to see if your pc is infected or not... it's easy.

Hundreds of thousands of infected PCs could be without Internet access beginning July 9, 2012, the day the FBI is planning to pull the plug on servers it seized that had been used to push ads to computers infected with a malware Trojan called DNSChanger. Systems infected with DNSChanger end up being redirected to the servers that were once under the control of the cybercriminals, but now belong to the FBI.

The other thread on this topic mentions that the diagnostic is administered by the FBI?

I didn't know there was another thread on this zen. I just clicked on the DCWG website in the article and then on the link and got a "green" saying my computer appeared to be ok.

i have had to deal with dns changers several times on our home computers ......

they all came from fake virus alerts and the kids brought them home ......

most were easy but one was a pain in the *** ......

you can usually get to a site by typing in a url but if you click on a link after googling it takes you where it wants to .......

This DCWG site has Detect and Fix tabs.......for anyone that might need to remove it.

While the FBI has these tools that people can use to check their systems, one wonders why the FBI cannot perhaps use the seized servers to issue a DNS redirect of its own that notifies affected people of the problem and provide resources for clearing the malware off affected systems. This would be relatively easy to implement, but so far those spearheading the DNSChanger cleanup have not done this.
    Very good question.

You're welcome! I ran into this awhile back when I was using a family member's computer. Like EastsideTerp said... it's a real pain in the ---.

That's what got me to post this thread....
