Don't let the screen door hit you in the arse on the way out, Newt.

What's funny is according to this article anyway, Newt thinks he can help the Repubs win the Senate and keep the House. Because he's so popular, right?

I don't think that his political views are unpopular. He's actually a very brilliant man. He definitely has skeletons but that would not impact his work as a consultant.

I keep hearing how brilliant he is. In what sense? Where is the proof of that? He taught history at West Georgia College, his ballyhooed healthcare thinktank went chapter 11, he lost the House to the Democrats. I don't get it.

If you don't believe it, just ask him.

He sold his interests in the business in 2011 and politics lost the house not Newts intellect.

He did take congress from the democrats for the first time in 40 years. He balanced the budget and was responsible for some landmark legislation including welfare reform, the taxpayer relief act of 1997 and the congressional accountability act of 1995.

Other Republicans are disgusted with him. If I recall correctly, he was described as an "idea man" who could never actually remember what his ideas were from day to day. Plus there's his ethics issues, and the fact that he was blamed for the largest number of lost House Republican seats in more than a half century just before he was forced to resign (which you mentioned).

Yes, and lost it 4 years later. And the business he sold was his business, access to him was its prime asset. He bailed and the company folded a few months later.

Yes passes some significant legislation but by that metric, Nancy Pelosi is likewise "brilliant". (And she wasn't run out of the House on ethics charges). And he hardly passed that legislation by himself.

I am not saying he is not a talented man. But his brilliance? I don't see it.

Actually they lost only 5 seats kept the House and Dennis Hastert became Speaker for the next 6 years.

"brilliant" & "genius" have to be the two most overused words these days. actors, directors & athletes, etc..everybody's a genius. it's become so diluted that it's lost all meaning.

It obviously has if terms like "Newt's intellect" are being used.

He lost the Speakership. Sorry, thought that was clear but could see that it wasn't when I re-read.
