    Cool Some fans !

I have been an Orioles fan since I was around 7 years old in the early 1950s. I remember when they would trade for a 38 year old guy like former all star Whitey Lockman and the press would get all enthused. They would go get old stars at the end of their career like Johnny Temple, Dave Philly, Harvey Haddix, Walt Dropo and Robin Roberts and you would think we won the World Series.

I can understand the frustration of 14 losing seasons. Who the hell wouldn't. At one time the Orioles were the baseball organization that others tried to copy.

Doesn't anyone appreciate the fact that we have a team? We have some good players too. Especially guys like Matt Wieters, Nick Markakis, Adam Jones, Nolan Reimold, & JJ Hardy all of who can be an all star and who have won or should have won a gold glove.

We have two of the best prospects in baseball including the highest rated in Dylan Bundy.

Yet most of the post say we are a lousy fielding team or lets trade Adam Jones or Bundy.
Why trade Jones? Replace him with who? A few years ago we had bodies playing CF and we complained and we finally get a guy who is a team leader, who hustles, who hits for power, has a great arm, can run but who is not 100% disciplined at the plate yet and people want to trade him. Again...for who? More prospects?

If this team is going to win they need to sign Jones to a long term and they need to do the same with Wieters and Reimold and show that we are not a stopping post for players to be future Yankee or Red Sox stars. If the sign these players th fans will start to come back to the park like the old days when 30,000 was considered poor attendance.

This team is playing well. We have a damn good manager. We have guys like Andino and a few others who aren't stars but who bust their butts and try hard.

10,000 people at the game last night is going to happen early in the season but all of this negative posting (probably by people who never even played high school baseball yet are statistic experts and fantasy league gurus) is nuts.

I see some real talent on this team and while the season is young a lot of these guys believe they can compete. I think I may just go and buy some more tickets. Regardless of what the so called experts say this is not he worst team in baseball. In fact...I think they just may surprise some folks this year.

We have a major league team and a beautiful ball park. If you like baseball stop Bth-ing and enjoy what a lot of other cities would love to have.

I was playing in a charity golf outing on Tuesday and was having breakfast at my table with Rick Dempsey and some old Colt players. Dempsey is always up beat and positive and it was great to hear him talk about some of these young guys in a frank and honest manner. He thinks that Bundy is the real thing and has the potential to be the best Oriole pitcher ever. Man, I am looking forward to that.

I always enjoy the first month and a half of Orioles baseball, then my focus turns to football as the Orioles land in last place to stay for the rest of the season

People want to trade Jones because Angelos won't pay what his asking price will be in another year or so. Same with Wieters and every other young player with ability (and especially because Wieters is a Boras client).

The best we can hope to be is the A's - a team that drafts well and trades shrewdly, and who never gets more than 3-4 years of production from anyone we develop. At least until Angelos either kicks the bucket or sells, that is.

I guess today's internet O's discussion boards aren't the same as they were when you were a kid

on a serious note, when you lead the league in errors and collectively rank at/near the bottom in fielding % (I think I heard that while watching a game earlier this week). you're going to get comments on it. are you suggesting that we not discuss such things?

We see/read post like this every time the O’s start the season playing well or end the season strong. Some guy, not just you, gets all excited about what’s happening at the moment that they can’t see it is all a mirage and then they come on here complaining that they don’t understand how people can NOT support the team or how can the experts say what they say about the O’s.

They start talking about the “Real MLB players” the O’s have because they have a few players playing well early. Those same players will be run out of town before you know it once their little hot streak ends and they return to normal. No doubt the O’s have some decent players, Jones, Wieters, and Markakis, to name a few, but not enough to be real contenders anytime soon.

By the end of the season those enthusiastic fans disappear never to be seen again until the next time the O’s have a good start/ending. Most fans are smart enough to know that what they are seeing is not real and that before long the real Orioles will show up and disappoint everyone who follows them!!

So you're trying to tell me, that after 9 years of professional ball, 9 years of poor plate discipline, AJ is going to magically figure out the plate? Find me a handful of people who did that...not count random statistical outbursts from the 90s

Anyway, glad you got that off your chest? Feel better now about yourself? Oh we're so ungrateful, how dare we talk baseball. Yes, you're a better fan than we are. Boo Hoo. Whatever that even means.

Everyone can go home now guys, the grumpy old man says we can't talk anymore. We're ungrateful. Or something. You know, "Ungrateful" for the team we built a stadium for, pay to go see, and pay a monthly Comcast fee to.

But to be serious. In the glory days of Oriole baseball, 30,000 was not bad attendance. In the realm of day games, 30,000 would be quite good. We didn't average 30K a game until 1989. Average attendance in 1970 was 13,050.

Your memory of the olden days is foggy, gramps.

    Well said!

Unfortunately, it is a doom n gloomer's worst nightmare that the Orioles are playing well and winning.
Not one of them will part with their craving to be right to actually enjoy this.

If the only thing that matter is "being right" you must have been pretty miserable these last 15 years.

I'm not obsessed with being "right".
I don't tie a self worth to that like many here do.

Unfortunately, many chronic complainers here would rather be right than root.

What do you tie it to then? Because of all the people here, you can never be wrong it seems.

Worse than that, you can't seem to discuss anything without some comment about how wrong the rest of us are.

    That's what opinions are for.

    That doesn't even mean anything.

Opinions are for what? Obsessing over being right?

Like that 6 month dead thread you just bumped about Carl Crawford? Even though no one is arguing that Carl has panned out you still feel the need to reply to yourself?

The post before your most recent post, unsurprisingly by you, contains the gem of a quote "Another one I was right on this year."

You're clearly mostly concerned about being right.

You're definitely not a paid shill for the Orioles, at least god I hope not, you actually manage to discourage people from wanting to come talk about the Orioles. You'd be Peter Angelos' biggest free agent bust.

    Smile last night's game

I enjoyed watching the Orioles last night. First time in a long time. I especially liked the last inning. Wow!

I hope the team gets even better. Some improvement at first and third, but the outfield is doing very well and hitting well too! And the pitching and hitting is also doing very well. I can see that so far I'm proud of the O's, and I hope they stay well. I don't want to think about what Angelos will do with our best players down the line. I'm hoping for the best, somehow even though I've no respect for the guy. And I'm hoping that we don't have any more severe injuries such as what's happened to Brian Roberts who was my favorite player and whom I miss. Buck Showalter's put a pretty good team together, and I'm proud even a little excited for the way they've been playing.

Two (non)plays stood out last night for me...a ball that went past Reynolds that looked like he didn't even make a move towards and the hard hit ball up the first base line that Nick Johnson didn't get to that allowed two runs to score.

(Nice to see the team tie the game to get Matusz off the hook for the loss. He had a nice start.)

Most players improve their approach as they enter their prime, which is where Jones is now

I realize it's early but Adam is hitting .316 with .350 OBP and .645 slugging. He hustles, he leads, he works hard. We could use an entire team of "undisciplined" players like that.

I enjoy complaining about the Orioles. And watching their games. And going to 5-10 games year.

Complaining about them gives fans something to do. Imagine being a Blue Jays fan. What do you talk about when your team is a few games to either side of .500 every year?

I would imagine it goes something like this.

Fan 1: The Blue Jays eh?

    Fan 2: Eh!

    Fan 1: The Leafs eh?

Fan 2: Eh, and the Blue Jays eh?

    Fan 1: Eh!

Thing is, when you have the ground ball rate these guys pitch to, you give your defense more chances to make up for mistakes.
So far, the O's are second in baseball in double plays induced.
