Random Lax Observations

1. Congrats to MSJ for beating McDonogh in lax. I didn't want to see it happen of course, but I'll give credit where credit is due, MSJ is a program headed in the right direction, they've beaten St. Pauls and McD this year.

2. If there was any doubt that the MIAA A was the best, most balanced, lax league in the country, this season has cleared it up. Just look at the top of the league standings:

CHC 6-1
BL 5-2
Gilman 5-2
Loyola 5-2
McDonogh 4-3
Severn 3-4
St. Mary's 3-4

7 quality teams left for 6 playoff spots, some very good team is going to be sitting at home.

3. There are going to be some great games this week:
5/4 Gilman @ BL, St. Mary's @ Severn
5/8 BL @ McD, Severn @ Gilman

Winner of the St. Mary's-Severn game Friday will have a leg up for the final playoff spot, winner of the McD-BL game on Tuesday will have a leg up on the 4th seed and a home quarter-final game.

4. I never thought I'd see St. Paul's lax fall this far, and they fell quickly. If you had to re-do the odds on the StP-Hereford game back in March, Hereford would be a heavy favorite. The closest league game StP has had was a 4-goal loss to Spalding.

5. Century is the best public school girls team in the state, they only lost to McD 15-8.

6. Score of the week for girls lacrosse: McD F/S (that's freshman/sophomore team, i.e. the youngest/least experienced girls lax players at McD, the ones who couldn't make JV), beat Catholic's varsity 14-7. This is after losing to them 28-24 earlier in the season. This Catholic varsity team is tied for 1st place in the C Conference.

I haven't been around much this year and haven't had a chance to see Gilman's Lax team this year but I heard that Micah Kiser isn't playing and instead is running track. This is obviously a huge blow to their team. He was a big time talent and would have been the 2nd best face off guy in the league to Kelly at CHC. From what I heard, this has really hurt Gilman's offense this year. They are obviously still very strong but against a team like CHC, this puts them at a big disadvantage.

I haven't been around much this year and haven't had a chance to see Gilman's Lax team this year but I heard that Micah Kiser isn't playing and instead is running track. This is obviously a huge blow to their team. He was a big time talent and would have been the 2nd best face off guy in the league to Kelly at CHC. From what I heard, this has really hurt Gilman's offense this year. They are obviously still very strong but against a team like CHC, this puts them at a big disadvantage.

Micah is good at on face-offs, and he had a very good game vs CHC in the MIAA Finals last May. However, your assumption that he would be the 2nd best in the league this season is HUGE and not true in my opinion. Especially considering the fact that you have not seen any games this year. For starters, he is not better than Severn's face off specialist.

Micah is good at on face-offs, and he had a very good game vs CHC in the MIAA Finals last May. True but I saw quite a few last year and he in my opinion was the 2nd best returning in the MIAA. Either way, he would be a more experienced face off guy than who they have right now.

My assumption is that Micah is doing this for football reasons. He always had to drop a lot of weight for lacrosse and it was always an issue in the offseason putting it back on. This is a big senior year and Gilman has their hardest schedule ever. Outside of Tilley and Blair, I think the major contributors on next years team all are running track. And remember this name, Jelani Roberts Along with Robert Branch, two frosh on Varsity track that will be making noise on the football field. Roberts needs to put on weight but he has serious speed for a 9th grader. A little faster than Branch.

My money is on Micah playing lacrosse next year.

Gilman's JV issues I believe stemmed more from a new coaching staff than talent. Because there was a lot of talent on that team. Especially on the lines. I believe if Pfeiffer were still coaching that score would have been drastically different.

Roberts will not be a RB, he will be at WR position. He has a young body and needs weight but he has serious serious speed for a 9th grader. Losing Jones will hurt in the speed department but the future is very bright on the speed side.

True it isn't football season yet but everybody is itching right now!
