Default Is this team better than the 2005 team?

I think that the pitching is certainly better than 2005, and even if we falter we have a couple arms in the minors that can shore up the rotation. That's nice.

Our lineup is a lot younger, so that's good. I'm concerned that Reimold has a spine problem though, I was counting on him for 25 homeruns.

Though the fact that our biggest bat his terrible is scary, and the whole Nick Johnson situation is concerning.

We don't really have anyone in AAA to come to our rescue for position players. If you remember that was the case in 2005 when we had to call up...Jeff Fiorentino...

This team isn't going to have 4-32 collapse or anything like that.

But if we keep this up for a few more weeks I think the front office needs to start making some moves for some AAAA players to store in the minors for depth.

Injuries derailed the Orioles 2005 season.

They're definitely better, but they're more raw and unproven.
BRob was in his 7th? season, Miggy was proven, Mora has been good before, Lopez was proven...but they didn't have the pitching or the depth.

I still don't know how this team is going to end up, but the lineup has 7-8 potential 20+ homerun hitters, and a pitching staff that seems to know what it's doing.
With Matusz contributing, you're looking at potentially 6 good starters (when Britton comes back), and some good guys down at the farm for filling in.

Man, this good start for the Orioles must be killing you. You already lost a month (April) to point out how bad the Orioles are. You're whole 2011 NFL season was ruined by the 12-4 Ravens too.

Oh I forgot, you don't care about these teams at all despite constantly posting.

That team had more big name guys. Lopez, Palmerio, Sosa, and Tajada. Brian Roberts and BJ Ryan were incredible in the first half of the season. 2005 had more Talent but lost its chemistry after they blew a ninth inn game to Boston. The difference may be the Red Sox and the Yanks are not as good as they were in 2005. The problem is going to be the Rays this year.

I think this team has alot more pitching depth than the 2005 team which everyone knew a collapse was coming at some point. Mora at 3B was the only clear better player on that 2005 team. Maybe Roberts over Andino at 2B.

25 games in and they look good. With the Sox, Rangers, Rays and Yankees up next, if they can win 7/8 out of next 12 I'll start believing.

Much better talent wise. All those guys but Roberts and BJ Ryan were on their way down and look at that rotation. Yikes. Here you have Wieters and Jones entering their prime with Reimold,Davis,Arrieta,Chen and Britton all developing and a closer in his prime. And don't get me started on the manager upgrade. But the AL East is a lot better. TB and Tor were both doormats back then.

Maybe more talent...but definitely people on their downsides.

Sosa, Palmeiro, and Lopez were all HUGE disappointments.

    Not to mention the suspension.

We certainly have a better manager. As I recall 2005, the manager lost the clubhouse at some point. I have trouble envisioning that scenario on this squad.
