Do you know of anyone else who believes that? No one on MLB.com believes that nor on baseballamerica, sports illustrated or any reputable journalist.

That is an unreasonable and irrational statement made to invite vitriolic responses.

Is your post a "vitriolic response?"

Clearly you are impressed by or scared of him. Otherwise, why would you compare a kid who's been in the bigs for a week versus players with 3+ years of experience.

Harper brings with him the same very high expectations that came with Matt Weiters when he was first promoted to the O's. If either Harper or Weiters were on the market, practically every other team in MLB would want them. They're very special talents and that's obvious to almost anyone remotely familiar with baseball.

Game winning RBI double last night...hitting .375 and 4 doubles in 6 games, and they need to move detwiler up a spot in the rotation, jackson has been the most vulnerable.

eh...maybe Wieters. Seriously, Harper is a 19 year old prospect that has played 4 games in the majors.

Wieters has won a Gold glove, was already a top prospect, and is hitting now at an all star level from the toughest position in baseball.

    The rest, eh....

I was referring to the super high expectations that came with Weiters when he was first promoted to the O's. Similar expectations come with Harper. Weiters is meeting those expectations and is probably the best overall catcher in MLB today. Harper will as well.

    Srsly....how great is that?

It kills me when I hear ppl say he will be on the 1st flight to NYY when his deal ends. There is something magical about DC that for w/e reason once players arrive there makes them never want to leave.....stars and roll players alike. Harp and Stras will be no exceptions and that should have Nats fans absolutely giddy for the next 1.5 decades.

ya know I wasn't a fan of Harper before this season, thinking he was a cocky arrogant jerk, but the kid is growing on me now. He is a gamer. And he gained a lot of respect in my book by playing in that softball game as well. I wish him well.

I think we are really lucky right now to have two exciting teams in our back yard this year.

    Alright Harper, I finally believe.
I really didn't believe that he was the level that many predicted - but this guy is amazing. If he's not hitting, he's taking walks. If he's not walking, he's making an amazing defensive play. If he's not making a defensive play, he's finding his way to third and stealing home.
He's not enough to make the Nats a good offensive ballclub, but he's sure keeping the Nats competitive.

And how exactly has he done since leaving? He was all about a $$$ grab (& even so it was a hard decision to bolt from what you read)....and we see how that's worked out.

I'd say they're being just a tad more than 'competitive.'

How is that relevant? You said everyone wants to stay in D.C. Clearly not.

If they get an outrageous way above market deal to leave...then of couse clearly not. Doesn't mean they don't fall in love w/the city/area....but some are more capitalistic than others and will jump @ the highest offer.

Shoot....Adam Dunn was almost in tears at leaving DC for the CWS $$$. Altho in hind's sight.....Nats dodged a real bullet there.

    Really:

    Nationals 18-10
    Orioles 19-9

But I guess the Orioles got lucky.

I'm not getting combative here, but that was during the horrible bowden era, and I believe the compensatory pick we got for that was used to get jordan zimmerman, who do you think the cubs would rather have right now? We can't catch a break, werth might be out awhile with a broken wrist....how sick would it be if we could see a beltway world series? Espinosa needs to be sent down when zimm comes back and move lombardozzi to 2nd, he has been hitting like crazy!!
