Unfortunately Suggs won't be back this year. This is a slow-healing injury. In fact I think the Ravens will IR Suggs to eliminate any desire or urge to rush him back too soon.

I would have to agree with you. Suggs can't be replaced in terms of what he brings to the defense, but in reality, the only guy on any NFL team today who probably can't be replaced is the QB. If it were Flacco that suffered that injury, I would say season over. But we have seen how defensive parts can be replaced because the scheme is more important than the talent. Ed Reed missed almost half a season two years ago, the Ravens were fine. Ray Lewis missed a few games last year and the defense hardly missed a beat. Harrison for Pittsburh missed time last year, and their defense was still at the top. No Suggs will put a little more pressure on the new DC, but if the players stepping in adhere to the scheme, they still should be a very good defense. The only reason Suggs hurts more than most players is that the Ravens lack a good pass rush from anyone other than him. If the scheme is adjusted properly, they can do just fine. It will be up to the coaches to figure out how to compensate for his loss. It's a great opportunity for Upshaw to come in and make a big impression. It's also a great opportunity for Kindle to actually contribute and show he belongs in the NFL. I have more faith in Upshaw. Kindle hasn't played consistently for two years and his character is very suspect in my mind.

And yet.....he is approaching the wrong side of 30. As the great PhD Shaq O'Neil once said.....'35 ain't 25.' And it stands to reason that 30 ain't 20 either. 5-6 years ago....yes....maybe he comes back faster and almost as good (well....adequate) as ever. But at his age now? Wait til next year.
Nailed it. I hope that is what happens, and it sure could. If the team brings in a journeyman free agent rusher in case this trio utterly fails that would be prudent. But if Kindle is free of medical issues I can't see why he couldn't become the rusher he was drafted to be. Kruger showed definite signs that he can be effective in a rotation. And why not expect Upshaw to be be charged up and hungry. I actually hope that Suggs is not forced to hurry back. Imagine him working back gradually, a few plays more each game, going into the playoffs. It is the Defensive Coordinator's job to handle this, and I think he can do it.
