He was and
is a politician with ambitions.
Of course he would have run. What other options were available to him at the time?
I have no doubt that racial aspects
do sometimes play a part in politics and elections, but some see them everywhere whether supported by facts or not.
To
assume that the current~mayor will use race as the major criterion in choosing the next police commissioner ignores the reality of past appointments and who made them. And comments made show that
is the assumption being made.
It's sad that in 2012
some are still compelled to think a black mayor would only choose a police commissioner that might happen to be black
because they happen to be black.
