    Default The new 1st baseman

You know the guy with Chris as his first name. Well in many ways it reminds me of the days of yesteryear. Could this guy "Chris" be the one bat needed to complete the O's turnaround? It seems the O's did this with a trade for Frank in the 60's. The one player needed to compete. The pitching is there and now the missing piece. What is his name? lol

Frank was an already established star.

Yeah, I wouldn't really compare the two, either. This is more of a calculated gamble on a guy the Rangers gave up on.

This might be karma make up for the Glenn Davis trade!

I think Davis is going to morph into the designated hitter that can play first base when others like Wieters need the break but we still need their bat in the lineup. I would like to see Reynolds get more time at First to keep his confidence up because he rarely has a bad game at that corner of the infield.

Chris Davis has been fantastic and will be a powerful presence for years to come. In the spirit of fairness and at the risk of attracting the haters, I recall that Ghost Oriole was pushing for the Davis acquisition last year before the O's made the trade.

This is the only thread I could find related to him and Davis.

JCC suggested Davis, not Ghost - and it was 2010, not 2011 - and considering I don't remember really seeing you around here during that time, how would you remember that?

Maybe 'Ghost' was exactly that, a 'Ghost' and gets to morph into any poster he/she chooses to be?

I've had more than 3,000 posts since 2009 so I assume your memory is a bit flawed or more likely you chose to ignore my "brilliant" comments during 2010 and 2011.

I recall several threads where posters (including Ghost) advocated trading for players who were blocked on their current teams. I thought Davis was one of those. Anyway, thanks to your research, kudos to JCC for suggesting Davis. It too was "brilliant."

Davis is turning into a pretty good player, who has a place on a MLB roster.

He's not, and never will be, Frank Robinson.

Davis on defence is definitely a work in progress, with scooping balls out of the dirt not his strong suit!

Who will you be cheering on during the next 4 games in Baltimore? It seems like a win-win situation for you?

The Orioles. In a head to head matchup, I go with the O's, but I root for the Rangers against everyone else.

I do remember GO being very happy when we traded Koji away for Chris Davis and T. Hunter. It stuck in my mind b/c it was only post I can recall where he had anything positive to say about an Oriole player...Ghost's comments began on page 3:

    Default 1st basemam

The only good first baseman I can recall that wasn't eons ago was Raffie. Looks like today they've got some of their better players and the rest are lousy. It's the Oriole Way these days. Win a few, lose a lot.

Great trade, Davis was blocked and a victim of poor timing with the Rangers. I would have loved to have seen them make a run at Michael Young a couple years ago, like Konerko just a pro hitter and can play multiple spots. Davis has the power potential that the O's haven't had at first in a long time. Whether he pans out or not it was definitely worth the risk for an aging and injury prone reliever and they got Hunter to boot. Davis, Reynolds, Tejada, Reimold, Johnson and Wieters all mixed up in some kind of dh/1st/3rd mix, that's what Buck wanted, flexibility at DH and other positions. Kind of hides some of their flaws with multiple positions and good defensive utility guys. Buck maybe smarter than i thought...
