    Cool Schedules....

I was listening to some Raven fans complaining about the tough schedule. The Orioles have a tough schedule too because of the division they are in. They were calling 105.7 and bemoaning how much harder it will be now that Suggs is hurt and how we shouldn't get too carried away with the Orioles until they play TB and Texas.

When I was a season ticket holder for the Colts I wanted to see them play the tough teams like Green Bay and Chicago. I also want to see the Orioles face the other teams best pitchers.

Why pay the high ticket prices to go see weak teams like the Twins and Royals or the weak NFL teams like the Redskins? I hated when the Colts played the Skins here because Washington was a bad team back then as were the Steelers, Cardinals and a few others. I wanted to see the Rams and 49ers and the NY Giants.

I can remember when the NFL was not exactly the money machine it is now. When the Colts would play away those game would sell out because while those cities wanted to see their team win they also wanted to see Johnny Unitas play. Hell, I want to see Payton Manning play not John Beck. I wanted to see Gayle Sayers not somebody named Sissy Smith the fumbler.

I wanted to see Roger Clemens and Mickey Mantle and those players. Inter-league play wasn't there when I was young. Even the Senators were in the AL. I wanted to see Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Bob Gibson.

If seeing your team beat up on weaker teams is what you want a ticket to see instead of seeing the great players I think you have your priorities a little confused.

I can remember walking up the ramps to memorial Stadium and when you got to a point that you could see the field and the green grass it was a thrill. Then you knew you were going to see a professional game. That was the start. then I wanted to see the great players regardless if they were better than the Oriole or Colt players.

I know there are a lot who will disagree but the weak schedule isn't that appealing to me. I bet there is some Texas fan saying the same thing about playing the Orioles. (lol)

I don't think the Ravens schedule is too "hard" or too "weak". Aside from the occasional team that has to play 3 straight roadies with no bye, or has to fly coast-to-coast to play a Thursday night game... you're playing a set schedule and the home / away games even themselves out over the season.

As for baseball, I've never been the type who picks and chooses games to attend based on the quality of the opponent. I go to the ballpark to watch the Orioles hopefully beat whatever team is sitting in the other dugout. Went to see the Rangers with Nolan Ryan once just because I wanted to see Nolan pitch in person, but that's probably the only time in my life I cherry-picked based on the opponent. Otherwise, I could really care less if the other team is the 119-loss Tigers or the 116-win Mariners...
