Default hammels knee injury threatens to derail hopeful start.

with hammels setback[knee] the orioles face a challenge. depth at norfolk is a term i shouldnt even use because there is none. the system at both norfolk and bowie is bereft of major league ready pitchers and position players. it looks like tillman, eveland, and ultimately johnson may all soon get chances to pitch for the orioles. tillman has always failed and is not setting the world on fire at norfolk. eveland will get a shot before johnson also. he is doing a fine job at triple a, but the majors are a different test. johnson has the best overall numbers at norfolk, but is not on the 40 man roster, thus he is less likely to get a shot. his whip, k to walk ratio, era, and batting ave against warrant a shot before either of the other two. he is only 24 and has seven years of minor league experience, with success at each level. whomever the o's bring it may not be enough. hammels loss for any appreciable time will put a severe damper on the euphoria that was beginning to build around the team. noefolk is a really bad team and bowie is not much better.

So much for 'promising' and hopeful'. He will go down to the minors and never be heard from the rest of the year (that injury will become more and more 'mysterious').....or he will come back up much later (likely when you are 20+ below .500) and remember that he is in deed Jason Hammels (i.e. kiss those 'promising #s goodbye.).

    What a conundrum.

Why would someone who claims to not care at all about the Orioles come to a messageboard every single day to try to ruin things for Orioles fans?

One reason is the Baltimore Sun doesn't know how to run a business and lets them. Any other forum most of these guys would be kicked off.

The only thing he ruins is common sense. If he actually had any true predictions or presented lucid facts I might actually get upset. But getting mad about what this turd says is like panicking every time some nut job says the world is going to end. Don't worry about this lonely idiot.

Ah yes.....speaking of wastes of life.....

Don't get all butt hurt because your team is about to be exposed for the fraud that it is. How many yrs do we have to sit thru this movie?

Bundy will be up in no time now. Also they are now working out Willis for a starting pitcher.

Hammel is missing one start, no big deal. The performances of Matusz and Hunter are far bigger worries

hammels mentioned[ or the writer inferred this was similar to pain in his other knee that resulted in surgery. hunter and the lefty may give u one good start out of two if lucky. britton would have been the answer if hammels had not gotten hurt. reading between the lines, i see hammel going under the knife. eveland, tillman, and johnson r the orioles three best options. i cannot imagine bundy jumping this year. doc gooden did it, but this is a different era. the orioles will be overly cautious with a pitcher that one oriole spokesperson thinks will blow out his arm within two years[100mph is violent]. the ligaments will have to be operated on.

the plasma injections administered to britton r experimental. look what they did to crawford. with a bum shoulder britton is questionable at best. unfortunately the os will not win more than 75 games. our minor league system is very weak. schoop is over rated. machado is struggling, mahoney hit his glass ceiling and there is no pitching anywhere. oliver drake will never be a good major league pitcher. del monico, and lino are three years away if they make it all and esposito was another mistake by the miserable oriole scouting staff[rowell, hobgood]. i guess jones will unfortunately be traded if this thing falls apart. that is a shame. 120m for 6 would get it done.

That's funny. Literally all the scouting reports I've seen have said his delivery is easy and smooth, and inhury isn't much of a concern. Who's this mystery spokesperson who thinks he'll need Tommy John when he doesn't even get sore after starts?

Sorry, bud anyone who constantly trolls a message board is a waste of life in anyone's eyes, so stop trying to project.

Oh, I forgot where I posted that I thought the Orioles are going to the World Series or even destined to have a winning season this year. You're the only one who is hurt by the fact they have had success to this point (and don't worry about my BUTT, I don't swing that way SPANKY, so Sorry!)

Hopefully it's nothing serious. This team really cannot take any more bad luck.

Oh yeah, and it's Hammel, not Hammels.

There was a worrisome article in the Sun about how this could be a re-occurrence of an injury from his years in Tampa that eventually required surgery. Not good.
    http://articles.baltimoresun.com/201...uffle-rotation
An MRI taken this week showed inflammation and fluid and "maybe an old injury that had been re-aggravated." But Hammel said the soreness has gotten to the point where it's hurting his ability to pitch.

Hammel said he had a similar problem with his left knee at the end of the 2008 season with the Tampa Bay Rays that required surgery at the end of the season.

Ah yes.....it just wouldn't be an Orioles P w/o some kind of 'nagging' or 'mysterious' or 'lingering' injury. Such as life.

I'm betting a certain 'DPOY' won't be the only Baltimore baller shut down for 2012.

The former maybe, but the latter probably wasn't going to add up to much, anyway.
