Default help! What is the Md 2012 budget vs the 2013 budget?

I'm talking with a co-worker and letting her know that the 2013 budget actually reflects an increase over 2012 despite the fact that it's called a "doomsday budget"....I tried googling to see if I could get some hard numbers to compare the two or a percentage but, boy, it's not easily found (probably on purpose).

Does anyone have a link to this data?

    thanks in advance

Kind of a moot point since the Doomsday budget won't be going into effect

Well judging from this Washington Post story the DD budget would have still been a 2% increase. It doesn't break down the numbers though

see bottom of page 7, FY 13 3% increase over FY 12

FY 13 spending is 35.851 billion.

If you deduct .5 billion doomsday cuts that's 35.351 billion, still higher than FY 12's 34.835 billion

it has more to do with increased health (Medicaid) spending

spending on Medicaid shot up when stimulus money became available but never went back down to pre stimulus levels after stimulus funds dried up

    http://www.mhaonline.org/File%20Libr...caid-Study.pdf

In Maryland, the federal share increased to over 61 percent in fiscal year 2010. These stimulus dollars represent only a temporary boost and are due to expire in fiscal year 2011. As a result, the 2012 Federal Fund allowance for Medicaid is $433 million less than for 2011. This loss of federal stimulus dollars contributes directly to the budget shortfall in Maryland and almost every other state. In fact, the more than $400 million loss of stimulus funds represents 20 percent to 25 percent of the expected budget gap for Maryland in fiscal year 2012.

thanks ken and boink. i think the salient point here is that most people don't realize the so-called doomsday budget actually reflected an increase over the previous year/budget. such sleight of hand, really.....to bamboozle that many people

You also need to consider that they claim "cuts" in spending but in reality just shifted an existing committment to local government.

Hopefully the true fatality of the special session and the tax increases that followed will be the end of any real possibility that O'Malley runs on that national stage. He is terrible at the state level, I can only imagine how horrible he would be as president.

This special session screws the countries, education and teachers. By moving the pension cost over to the counties expect county taxes to rise QUICKLY. Counties might also be forced to lay off teachers near tenure along with increasing class size.

An increase in spending now when inflation and interest rates are low doesn't bode well for for future years either.

America and in fact, the whole world, should thank us for the sacrifice that we in Maryland will pay to keep this dangerous man out of the white house.

O'Liar hasn't cut one penny from the budget ever. He has increased spending every year since he took office. Maybe the Maryland voter will finally wake up and start cleaning house in Annapolis before the next tax increase.

My favorite is how they figure a budget "cut". Using simple numbers this is a Maryland budget cut....

If your budget for FY 2012 is $100.00 and you request a 5% budget increase for FY 1013 and get it your budget for FY 1013 is $105.00.
If Owe'Malley and company say no you have to take a 2% budget cut the cut is not figured on your FY 2012 budget, it is figured on your FY 1013 request. This means that your FY 2013 budget is $102.90 an increase of 2.9%.

    100.00 X 1.05 = 105.00 105 X .98 = 102.90

Then to add insult to injury the crooks made the tax increase retroactive back to Jan 1, 2012. So you had your taxes increased all the way back to New Years. Gotta love the Dems. Wake up Maryland!!!

Exactly! Like a kid pushing peas around on his plate, trying to convince you that he ate them. I wish someone would excuse O'Malley from the table.

O'Malley was and is a huge mistake. So are those in control in the General Assembly. Where will the spending and taxing stop increasing? There are no limits on these jerks. Guess that is what happens in a society when voters that are dependents of the state reach more than 50%.
