    Default Nice job Buck

Nice idea, taking Hunter out after 82 pitches. So much for saving your bullpen.

I don't think anyone said Fire Buck.

I mean there's 2 posts in the thread above yours so maybe I missed something, that's a lot to read, but I'm pretty sure...

You are right. No one said fire Buck. I think the guy's point was that Buck seems to know more about managing a baseball team than a guy posting on a message board. He does have his team in first place and had he left Hunter in for another 2 innings, he just might have allowed 3 runs. Who knows? Point is, the O's won and they continue to win.

This is a baseball forum. We talk about the aspects of the game. Sometimes people posted emotional reactions as a side effect of an emotional sport. Second guessing and analysis have been, and will always be, much of what takes place on a forum. Few would suggest they know more about the game than Buck.

No, no, certainly wasn't suggesting a "Fire Buck" attitude. I thought that was obvious, but I guess I was wrong. For the record, I think Buck is a great manager. I just think he made a bad decision taking Hunter out when he was cruising. In fact, if Wieters had not lost that foul pop in the lights, Hunter would not have given up any runs at all. And I certainly was not suggesting that I know more about managing a baseball game than Buck. I don't know how anyone could have gotten that from my post, but whatever.

No way would I have trusted Hunter to pitch the 8th inning. Gotta let Matusz take one for the team today

But you would trust Patton? Even bad pitchers can have good games. That was definitely one of those games for Hunter.

I'd definitely trust Patton over Hunter. Not by much though. If Hunter was a long reliever I'd trust him over Patton, but not going thru a lineup for the 4th time

Hunter doesn't have the command or the stuff to go through the lineup more than 2-3 times a game, depending on the team. What gets him through is strategy. He throws strikes, lets the other team hit ball, and waits for them to time him.
Once he's timed, he gets destroyed. Watch the difference in the swings the first time around to the third.
He should be a long reliever - I think the fact he's a righty is the only reason why he's still in the rotation. Otherwise, I think they would just move Eveland or Patton into the rotation and be done with it.
